"I'm not sure if the WTF is that I have to find 0000FF]2 piles of dirty clothes," Simon H. writes, "or the fact that the ']' makes it look like they entered the information in something resembling BBCODE."
I can agree that this is a QA failure, but why would BBCODE be a WTF if their game engine supports it?

It simply looks like they forgot the opening [ when highlighting some text in blue (#0000FF). There must be a clossing "tag", and that is hidden like it should.

Also Prof., Captain, Reverend (and I know a Very Rev.), Eur Ing and numerous others. Once you start this competition of who can have the most titles in the dropdown, it just gets silly.

Years ago when it was a fairly good newspaper, the Daily Telegraph had a column whose author once decided to work out the longest possible set of titles for someone who could have actually achieved them. He ended up with something like

Police Constable the reverend Captain the honourable professor Sir Fred Bloggs Bart OM, MA, PhD, DCL, LLD. I'm sure people can improve on this but it shows the utter futility of title dropdowns. (And in Germany you can have PhD more than once, so you can be Herr Doktor Doktor.) [edit- I notice this has already been pointed out above.]

Thinking about it, "Apparently the Muff is attracted to smelly clothes" is far more worrying than a bit of hex, especially if kids google for it. (I confess, I did to see what came back. • (disco) in reply to kupfernigk

A program I maintain has to produce an output file for a system which validates titles -- only its title field is much shorter than most of the titles, so the validation rules contain a huge mapping table of valid titles to shorter codes. Which has obviously been maintained by hand, and not very carefully, so some titles aren't present at all (eg: 'Madame' but not 'Mademoiselle'), some are present multiple times (eg: two separate codes for 'Wing Commander the Honourable') and some, of course, are spelling errors.

The Dalai Lama gets by on His Holiness, which is pretty moderate compared to Most Reverend, or the title of the Pope:
You are mistaking his informal title with his full title, which I'm sure rivals the Pope. The late Chogyam Trungpa, who was merely a lineage holder in the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, not at the level of the Dalai Lama, commonly went by his incomplete list: Vajracarya, the Venerable Chogyam Trungpa, Eleventh Trungpa Tulku, Rinpoche. He also had several other titles, such as Lord Mukpo, Holder of both Kagyu and Nyingma Transmissions, etc. He was later promoted from Vajracarya to Vidyadhara, and was posthumously promoted as well.

The Dalai Lama is also called the Kundun, and that's just for starters.

I can't argue with that, but I can throw Chapter Nine of that book at you.

Only the last sentence is pertinent, but I just really like the part about the Scotch Terrier.

At the state university he took his studies so seriously that he was suspected by the homosexuals of being a Communist and suspected by the Communists of being a homosexual. He majored in English history, which was a mistake. 'English history!' roared the silver-maned senior Senator from his state indignantly. 'What's the matter with American history? American history is as good as any history in the world!' Major Major switched immediately to American literature, but not before the F.B.I. had opened a file on him. There were six people and a Scotch terrier inhabiting the remote farmhouse Major Major called home, and five of them and the Scotch terrier turned out to be agents for the F.B.I. Soon they had enough derogatory information on Major Major to do whatever they wanted to with him. The only thing they could find to do with him, however, was take him into the Army as a private and make him a major four days later so that Congressmen with nothing else on their minds could go trotting back and forth through the streets of Washington, D.C., chanting, 'Who promoted Major Major? Who promoted Major Major?'

Actually, Major Major had been promoted by an I.B.M. machine with a sense of humor almost as keen as his father's.
