Great, now that I've trolled my article successfully, time to read it...

  • (disco) in reply to Maciejasjmj

Oi, that's cheating. Also, mighty late to do any proofreading.

Well at least Superman was too busy to submit a review. Maybe next time?

If she learned more of the command line she could be less mousy?

Why did management dump the apparently improved web site because they couldn't justify the time for testing and bug fixes?

  • (disco) in reply to lcrawford

PR disaster. Once upper management or partners get wind of these kinds of issues, it sours them on the whole project, and they'd rather pull the plug than fix it. I've seen it dozens of times. QA often gets blamed, as if we chose not to test.

Well, you did! I mean, you should have stayed at the office the whole night before, tested everything and fixed all the bugs!

Don't you people ever do your job? I mean fuck, no wonder poor managers are such an assholes to devs when QA people are such a bunch of lazy bastards!

I thought the Sunk Cost Fallacy would get in the way of that...

IME, sunk cost goes out the window the minute you have a production incident, because now it's "that awful project that broke the servers".

The web site was (maybe) improved. The only (?) problem was that it was essentially a beta version, and it was populated with test data rather than real data. This should have been an easily solved problem.

Our university's new branding came with a new website and CMS, whose development abruptly stopped when the money ran out. There were supposed to be an elegant choice of webpage styles with slick editors. None were finished. But we live with it today.

The idea was to turn all secretary's into high power web admins, as no changes went live but were supposed to be approved by them for their respective departments. That didn't fly at all; no one understood what to do or how to do it. Things evolve, and the site functions somewhat.

But as of this morning there are still dozens of pages in the Dashboard for my faculty waiting approval. The oldest has been there for 5 years 45 weeks. The youngest is 1 week 4 days. That's right - people are still submitting orphan webpages incorrectly to the broken CMS for the past 5 years.

No, but even the guys who designed it said it wasn't ready to be deployed. The article described the new website as "sleek," so I'm quite willing to believe that it was an improvement over the "relic of late 90s." The WTF was, as far as we can tell from the article, solely that there was no QA before it was deployed, and there's only one person in the story who can be blamed for that.

“I’ve been thinking. When life gives you lemons? Don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought is could give me lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s going to burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m going to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”
