See, I managed to keep my local admin privileges when they were ripped away (I convinced upper management that having everyone be a domain administrator was a Bad Idea. Instant ban hammer!), Now all I need to do is install a hypervisor...

51 posts, and no mention of "jumping the shark"? I am disappoint.

TRWTF is using windows. Plug in your Linux laptop with tcpdump and actually get to the bottom of what the DC is doing. Or just merrily continue your development without logging into that domain.

Yes. Here is my advice: Quit - Find another job. I have never been at an acquired company that didn't either treat us like shit or fired all of us. Either they fired us up front or during a long bleeding-to-death process.

But the IniTech's security also had the switches to recognize only known-mac address, and would lock the port if you ever connect something with an unexpected mac. (half joking, seen it IRL).

Installing a new PC... well, wait for the network admin to give you clearance.

But if they made network hardware, chances are they had a hardware ethernet tap lying around, so that wouldn't be a problem.

Suppose I must be one of the lucky ones. During our own bleed-to-death process after the aforementioned acquisition, I am one of a small handful of the "old guard" left, and as such a) I am paid far more respect for my knowledge of the flagship product than I merit, b) I now have an important-sounding job title and (more importantly) a considerably higher number after the currency symbol on my contract than I used to have, and c) I have my non-technical manager (of the opposite gender to me and an absolute sweetie) wrapped around my little finger.

    the opposite gender ... sweetie

... something cis-normative something non-binary something patriarchy something oppression something ...

I am happy for you, but in my experience that is seldom to happen.

reminds me of a story where someone thought the "idle cpu" process of Windows was malware...
