But seriously, what is with all this blethering small talk clogging up service applications? What do they expect to see in the notes?

"TICKET 27252: Yes, actually, I went to a night-club and pulled. Still a bit hungover truth be told, and didn't get time for a shower, so I wouldn't make a personal visit to my cubicle if I were you. Now, what's the status of your lifestyle?"

Displaying app errors to customers has always chafed me. Fine, tell them something failed, but vomiting error json to regular people is a sickness.

With regard to unfortunate truncations, our old Dish Network channel display would truncate "This Old House" to "This Old Ho". And "America's Funniest Home Videos" became "American's Funniest Ho".

When I was a kid and we used to type programs into our Commodore PET we found one called "MAN EATING RABBIT" which was a very basic BASIC game. The Commodore cassette tape system truncated file names to 16 characters and we all thought it hilarious that we had a game called "MAN EATING RABBI".

I am curious about the Facebook API behind error dump (which provides a lot of info), including the boolean flag: allowIrrelevantRequests . . . trying to come up with a scenario where sending true would makes sense ...

Fairly sure that Numbers was taking the font name directly from the document — there’s absolutely no reason why they would hard-code a font name into the program. So the document was specifying “Calirbi” instead of “Calibri”, which suggests in turn that the file being imported has been tinkered with in some way.

Let me be the FRIST to say that there’s something slightly fishy about that scotch…

Also, the font typo… probably means that the original creator of the document has malware on their PC. Along the lines of a download that hides as a font file with a similar name to a common font… then the document author accidentally used that instead of the real one…

When the error report you get is likely to be that something went wrong some time ago, but they don't know what or when, you really value an explicit error report which you can tell them to take a screenshot of ans send you. Otherwise the same problem keeps recurring and cannot be fixed.

Having your users report errors to IT staff is a total BS way to do it. Errors should be logged, and the IT / Dev staff should be reading and acting on every logged event.

If the website faces the public, not corporate internal users, double fie on you! The public is not a useful test force and is heavily augmented with bad actors who gain useful intel from any error message.

that last one reminds me of a time my old antivirus program went crazy and started blocking every website...including IT'S OWN website! i forget what it was called, but it had an Umbrella logo.
