And I actually had a use for it today- I wanted to find all of the authors who had contributed in the latter half of the year, which our web interface doesn't make it easy to figure out.
You may need to

You could use this api to create some form of "autoreader". Imagine that lots of website implement this and then you could get an list of the latest articles of all the sites you follow. It is kind of a syndication. Wow that WOULD be a nice idea.

That's just crazy enough to work, then everyone will use it and it will be supported everywhere, then people will start to forget about it, then there will be a generation of people who wonder what the little icon in the sidebar does, then there will be a resurgence, then Google will make a really awesome product to pull in all of those feeds for you, then Google will shit in our mouths and drop the product and then people will stop supporting it because "only nerds use it now".
And...that will suck.
