Speaking as a person who doesn't enjoy fun, I'd say that being able to tolerate childish shenanigans still doesn't turn that kind of workplace into somewhere that I can be productive.

However, if anyone were to suggest that a team featuring a diverse selection of personality types could perform better than a homogenous one, that would certainly be something I could agree with.

Well the idea is that the nerfer would also make sure not to involve you in his funscapades.

Yeah, that covers that example, but back when they were talking about ‘cultural fit’, that seems to suggest something a bit more pervasive.

I know that's true, because I've seen it on TV. Hmm...

Yeah, choosing or excluding a candidate based upon "cultural fit" is something a bit different. It is hard to put in to words though. It is one of those things that you know when you see it.

Basically, don't hire oil and water to be on the same team. They won't mix, or the surfactant will get tired of doing its job, and emulsions are usually temporary.

Shitty metaphor, but I had to account for pedants. ;)

what's really fun is when there's already oil and water on the team and a more polar chemical is hired to be the surfactant....

    that was...... interesting.

i'm glad oil decided to apply for an internal transfer/promotion (actual promotion too, not just "promotion")

of course now we need to hire someone new to take the load. hopefully we get a polar chemical... or an ionic compound. that would work too.

But did you account for... mayonnaise? Any team will come together if you whip them hard enough.

Well, as they will likely unite against a real tirant, that only works as long as you can keep your job of slave driver.

The question is stupid. Time for the direct response: "Except what seeps into the earth, and what evaporates into the atmosphere.... All of it."
