There are probably a lot of very stressed out people down the hall in Mission Control.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the cause of the glitch eventually becomes a WTF?

For me step one in refactoring this would be extracting the test expression as a variable and give it a good name. Next step would be to extract it as a method just so I don't need to look at it anymore.

Then refactor until you probably have a few small lines left.

I mean, the real irony is that I'd have to be very careful writing it up, and rely only on public sources and no inside knowledge of the project, because there are lots of things I can't discuss publicly.

Also, the code I touched has no control over the mission, and is in no way, shape, or form in the control loop, so if anything goes wrong it's definitely not my fault.

Looks like you were right to post this disclaimer 🥲

Propulsion systems are fiendishly hard. I do not understand them, but I am quite happy working on the things that can't go kablooie (or, in this case, it sounds like "pssssssssshhhhhhhh", not that sound travels in space).

not that sound travels in space) Yes it does. Have you never watched the opening few minutes of the 1st in the documentary series, "Star Wars"? You can quite definitely hear the rockets flying over you. :)

It is so rare that developers get any credits at all these days, so lets hope the plaque survives in one way or another!

This is the second time I've ever heard of the Peregrine lander. Alas the first time was when I read about its fuel leak that's probably going to kill it. I'm so sorry, Remy.

Much sympathy to you and the team. Looks like the Invisible Space Corkscrew struck again.
