You'd have to think that a "hacked" version of this code would actually be more secure than the real thing.

Why? This is probably how they got in.

I particularly like how they put the constant on the LHS of the comparison, so they can't accidentally delete the exclamation and one equals and make it an assignment (at least I assume that's what's going on, being a PHP refusenik), and then just dump the input into the page. None of this surprises me. I would wager a decent amount that, were it possible to reliably measure such things, the WTFs-per-line-of-code ratio is higher in WordPress plugins than in any other category of software.

I think it's probably just a weird style choice of whoever wrote it.

I see this commonly when the RHS is a getter which might return null.

Well, duh. If one of the saws catches an unwary bystander and sprays hep-infested blood all over, you don't want that junk in your mouth, right?

I do so love that phrase "Well, duh." It communicates such a lot in such a compact message.

"Whenever I see you, you're always sticking bits of metal together by melting the edges."

    "Well, duh."

If you believe that "the customer is always right" this happens..... On the other hand, if you adopt "that entity is not right to be a customer of ours", you may just run out of customers.... Balance is hard.

How did this make it through moderation?

Dunno, but the "James Davis" everywhere. (I've been reading the past three weeks of archives...)
