Pfft. It's only a ten quadrillion(1) percent gain.

    (1) Long scale.

Why was I surprised Edge would refuse to open a local file when not connected... Sometimes you start thinking Microsoft has its shit together and luckily they pull stuff like that to correct it.

  • Robert (unregistered)

The Edge thing is just a confusing error message. If the file exists than it will display it, no matter if you are online or not. (and yes, I have tested it)

  • OldCoder (unregistered) in reply to doubting_poster

Of course Edge can open and read that file. What it also has to do is send your URL to Microsoft as telemetry, even though there is no possible benefit to them in doing that.

Maybe the local file didn't exist? Sure, the error page is wrong, but not the very first time I've seen something like that

  • Johnson (unregistered)

Maybe it's something about triple '/' in 'file:///', but I think that it should be handled correctly.

  • Harris M (unregistered) in reply to Ejfsk

That would be it, I noticed if you point edge to a local file that doesn't exist it appends a http:// before the file and tries to find a website.

Maybe try again and this time use properly formatted URI? Hint: Reporter is not using file://. (Hint 2: Count slashes)

  • Klimax (unregistered) in reply to Klimax

And today is my day to be WTF myself. There are indeed three slashes in file URI...

So incorrect message from older version of Edge. (1903 uses different message)

  • Ulysses (unregistered) in reply to doubting_poster

Why on earth would you think that? Win10do is an abomination and each CEO is worse than his predecessor.

  • JSS (unregistered) in reply to Klimax

    Three slashes is corrrect.

If you're curios the record player on sale is this. notice the odd slot-in cassette player, I suppose they have find some car radio tape transport. I think that that tonearm will happily plow your 33 and 45 instead of playing them...

The parameter is, or is not. There is no try.
