I found something that will make web development easy for us!

    Alarm bells.

    I'm fairly certain Alarm Bells won't do that... <!-- yeah - I know... -->

  • (disco)

Which is funny. At one point I was going to do this exact thing, but much more general and specifically based on Windows accessibility to determine what controls were available and where and what they looked like.

Perhaps it's a good thing it never made it outside my dreams....

So many different things wrong, but this is one of the stand-out ones:

The remote desktop software we use for maintenance kills all processes belonging to the user when he logs out.

Someone really thought they were hot shit when they invented that bit of code! (One of those two words is accurate, and it's not the one relating to temperature…)

Brilliant! So because of the skills and experience that Eugene has picked up on his last project, he is now in a position to sell himself to the highest bidder to maintain / replace / expunge AjaxSwing apps. Bound to be a money-spinner ...

    AjaxSwing alarm bells do :-P

But web development is easy! Except when it isn't.

  • (disco)

Well at least with that last part, he has a lot of experience with all the quirks of the app (assuming it's the same app, which I think is inferred). Sounds like a good opportunity to take the reigns and try to lead that project, since he worked on the AjaxSwing version.

Eugene soon found himself employed full-time at a web development company, one that specialized in building JavaServer Faces (JSF) web applications. Shortly after starting, he was quickly swept aboard a new project: taking a new client’s poorly-implemented, buggy, and unstable AjaxSwing web application and upgrading it to a new, clean, JSF-based version…

At which point, he ran screaming through the nearest wall, leaving a cartoon-like hole shaped like the outline of his body.

@Quite You are quite right about "selling to the highest bidder", but I left behind my AjaxSwing past, too horrible memories, still getting nightmares ;)

  • (disco) in reply to Quite

Kind of. Beware of getting pigeon-holed with Swing. Once you have it on your resume then every Swing related project that comes along you will be a candidate for. At some point that is all employers will consider you for.

Oh. So the word relating to sexiness?

OTOH, I really wish OS X did kill all user processes when the user logs off. (Granted, under OS X users have admin privs, rather than only "Admin" having admin privs). I find all sorts of memory and CPU hogs running after someone else logs off my iMac. ---- remember, if the user reeeellly needs to keep stuff running, he can SwitchUser rather than logging off.

nothing a quick reboot won't fix.

If it works for MicroSloth it'll work for Oh-six

Ah, you must have missed the other thread where several users claim it automagically re-launches everything you were doing before the reboot, in the exact state it was doing them (cursor position and everything).

So... Might not help as much as wanted.
