I would have said, frist of all, that the group photography one is less about design than it is about content management.

Memory address? With a g? Huuummmm

    Well, ok, but... "albatross"?

The GVim looks like it's in Farsi mode. I've done that before, when I edited a previous tail command into a vim, and forgot to delete the -F

My first was thought was that some Unicode RTL markers snuck into the text and caused it to reverse the text direction, but that's an interesting point, it could also be that GVim was accidentally set to a locale with RTL text like Farsi, Arabic, or Hebrew.

I don't really see how an hexadecimal memory address could contain the letter 'g' though

TIL that Aldi has a delivery service.

  • WTFGuy (unregistered)

    Maybe not.

The screen shot of the screwed up app belonged to a dedicated delivery company. Which said they don't support "Aldi restaurants" near that part of Ireland.

So: does Aldi have restaurants anywhere on Earth? Do they have them in Ireland? Does Aldi have grocery stores in Ireland? If so, does this Irish delivery service work with any Irish Aldi? With Irish Aldi stores near that town?

Being a developer is all about seeing, and sweating, the details, and about not making assumptions about blurry boundaries. Fnny how often that's overlooked here.

AFAIK, any delivery service can begin delivering stuff from any store with or without a business connection. To be sure, stores like to contract with delivery services and advertise the availability of delivery. Meanwhile delivery services like to sign exclusives with stores in exchange for promised volume and some discounts. But none of those business arrangements are necessary in the general case.

Looks like they were trying to get a restaurant takeout delivery company to pick up groceries. And deliver them to somewhere in memory.

I'm having some trouble turning "gce3x759h" into a RAM address. 8 alphanumerics with an "h" suffix sure looks familiar, but the "g" & the "x" don't.

I thought of treating it as a "plus code" (https://maps.google.com/pluscodes/) physical address but the syntax is wrong for that too. It doesn't decode meaningfully as a blob of Base64-encoded text either. Nor as a UTM physical location.

So it looks like they've just dumped 9 characters of random string data to the screen. Maybe it's Oisin's password.

  • Andrew A. Gill (unregistered) in reply to WTFGuy

    Was my thought as well.

x is familiar, but only when in the second position & immediately preceded with a 0, but that g is totally out of place.

I'm heavily siloed in my programming languages, so I thought maybe I was missing something, but I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering.

Indeed, and in some cases that has led to some odd stuff, indeed, one such case was commented on here in this august journal...

Challenge for someone sufficiently bored: produce a version of the GVIM image with the text in the correct orientation! (yeah ok I admit it, I foolishly thought just am image flip would do it...)

Let's face it: v1.0 of any algorithm never works! ;)

‘Block’ can be a surname, especially in Dutch (spelled ‘Blok’ there)—maybe it was just written by someone named ‘Tex Block’.

Does John H. live in Utah? You might sell wine, beer, and spirits to Mormons, but you can't be obvious about it!
