    Most EU licences now do. Or rather, the plastic card expires usually with 10 years - and you can't drive when your lovely plastic card is expired...

    I've still got the old paper never expiring type. If you need a replacement (lost/stolen) you get a new plastic one *with* an expiration. Folks of the generation of my parents have a "drive it all" type where they were granted all vehicle types in one go. Mostly because the types where invented after the license was granted.

    A bit older plastic driver licences in Finland expire in 50 years, but the law has changed since that. Now the new licences expire in 2-15 years depending on the license class.

    Next time I need to renew my license is 2054.

    In theory in Arizona you can go 49 years without renewing your license (they stay valid until you're 65 and you can get one at 16).

    I got a Greenlandic driver licens last year and it expires in 2050.... My first question on the teory question was "Which side of the road do u drive in" Next question "When u turn left or right... which side of the road should u position urself in"

    Was really wondering at the time if it was some kind of trick question :smiley:

    Oh well.. i got 10 km road to drive on and i cant drive faster than 60 km/t on any of em There is more cars than road here

    I haven't had to renew my license in Texas yet, but in Michigan the only requirements for renewing are giving the state money and proving that you can still see straight. There is a written test given every other time, but they will renew the license even if you fail the test. As far as I can tell, the only benefit of having licenses expire is making sure the picture gets updated. And monies for the state.

    It is the same in Maryland, except there is no written test for renewals. I was not aware that it was different in some other states.

    Maine is: give me money and can you still see the 'E' at the top of that eye chart? what does the first row of the eye chart read? is it 'E'? now about that money you have to give me?

    unless you are over 60 in which case you have to take the actual eye exam and the first renewal after 60 you need to retake the written test (although if you get the right teller they'll waive that)

    But as you said, just the plastic card. It's usually enough to visit your DMV equivalent with a paper to get another one - even if you passed your exams under Stalin, and now can barely lift a foot.

    At least my country has ID cards separate from driving licenses. Whoever thought that's a good idea...

    All I have to do (Ireland) is give them the money and let them take a new photo, because I needed glasses when I got my first one at 17. Don't have to prove I can actually still see with glasses again until I'm 70.

    What's most worrying about that is there's still people who got given a licence without any tests at all during a huge backlog about 30 years ago that are well under 70 and even then it's usually just a medical required.

    Actually, according to the screen cap, John would owe PayPal that amount in USD. The negative sign is important. I'd advise him to not do the exchange.

    We have photo IDs here in the States. Since they're pretty cheap, I got one as a backup for my driver's license, since I only have so many gray hairs as of yet.
