No, TRWTF is the sententious, pious and cloying email we all got sent by someone in our company who was misguidedly given authorisation to send to all members of staff in the entire company worldwide (including Europe, India, Middle East, the lot) about how we will be expected to treat Thanksgiving as a holy day of worship.

I just ignored it and lit some Canadian grass.

'Murica is much more real than any religion, so I'd say that calling it a "holy day of worship" is a slight against how important it is.

You clearly have yet to experience the retail diversification that is Canadian Tire. It started as a tire manufacturer/retailer some 50 years ago, then added automotive repair; it is now one of the largest chains of automotive repair facilities in the country. Then they added more stuff, and more stuff, etc. and somehow made it work. A typical tour of a Canadian Tire store starts at Automotive (repairs, tires, parts) then to Paint, Electrical (mostly lighting), Sporting Goods (bicycles, hockey equipment, including skates, hunting, camping, fishing, etc.), Garden centre (now either closed until spring or converting to Toy Central), Housewares (cookware, cleaning supplies, small kitchen appliances, cutlery), Seasonal (often patio furniture and gas grills, but changing to Christmas decorations right now) and then you reach Customer Service and the Cashiers, where you can collect Canadian Tire "Money" by paying with cash instead of credit cards.

It is a Canadian institution unlike many others. We have to find someway to make this idea work in the States, but the name might be a bit of a stumbling block.

American Football looks much closer to Rugby than what the rest of the world perceives as traditional football. To the untrained eye it does look like Rugby with body armour.

Apparently no one else here has ever watched Canadian football, so I'll field this one. The goal posts are still on the goal line in Canadian football, and the ball is still live on a missed field goal so the other team can return it. If the non-kicking team downs the ball in the end zone or if the ball goes through the end zone, it's a touchback and gives one point to the kicking team. So a team could win with a score of 1-0.

We missed that with ours. I'm not sure whether it wasn't a thing at the time, or we didn't get the right channel, or what (and I don't care enough to find out). Mostly Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers (and, for a while, *shudder* Teletubbies). It'll be a few years before I have to endure TV with grandchildren, I hope — not because I don't want grandkids, but because I don't want my kids to disrupt their college education with obligations they're ill-prepared to handle.

By that time, it will be just abstract shapes and colours making weird noises at each other. I luckily don't have to endure it too frequently, but AFAICT from skipping the channels kid shows (or at least baby shows) have really gone to shit in recent years.

What I presented was not an empty square, but a feeling of purposelessness. The black square on the white background was the first form of expressing the feeling of purposelessness: square = feeling, white background = nothing beside this feeling.
