    Can haz real text.

  • (cs)

I call bollocks on the motel. The text is all the way to the very edge. That doesn't look like a computer monitor at all. It's more like someone had a blue sign printed like that. (Or I wouldn't discount GIMPing it in.)

  • (cs)

"Submit" is not an applicable method for some of the selected posts. Would you like to "Delete" them instead?

  • (cs)

Is that a floodlight pointed up towards the sign?

  • (cs)

Is that a real sign? Look photoshoped to me.

  • Dan (unregistered)

That HP one is barely a WTF - really just an example of poor radio button labels.

  • (cs)

Pigeon Forge really is hell. Did you know Dolly Parton has her own theme park there?

  • Nathan (unregistered)

Bullshit on the monitor; corners are too neat.

  • (cs)

I agree, the motel sign looks very fake.

I think that sign is plausible enough. Think of all the edge-to-edge electronic displays you've probably seen before. Combine that with a brilliant blue background and it really pops out as if it were photoshopped.

I've already tried this with McDonald's free smiles. The overhead on delivering so many smiles is just too high.

The sign stuck me as fake too, I cant remember seeing a screen that displays all the way to the edge like that. And usually when something is zoomed way in that that it shows the top left, but I guess that could be the center of the screen.

If it was shopped, at least they put the effort into having the wires go in front of the screen instead of disappearing "behind" it.

  • BentFranklin (unregistered)

Zooming into the motel pic very tightly reveals no evidence of 'shoppery. Those wires would be a real PIA to do and would look terrible up close.

The actual error message is "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

Why it's zoomed in so far is beyond me, but it's also consistent with the 8x5 font you sometimes see.

  • Worf (unregistered) in reply to BentFranklin

Zoomed in makes sense - these kind of displays have low resolutions - 128 pixels by 32 if you're lucky - they're designed to be readable from far away and big, rather than showing fine detail. It's not a TV hung outside, it's one of those large electronic billboard signs that do graphics and such.

But I admit, it looks really fake. More pics would be nice.

It doesn't have to be a display. It could be a mis-printed sign, created by some shoddy sign printing software. Of course, to grab a BSOD it couldn't be running on the machine... I've got it! The sign-printing software runs on a specialized device that takes a VGA input from a splitter carrying the monitor output from the "working" computer. It crops a certain area out (which would normally be indicated by the companion software you use on the working computer) and prints that. So if you get a BSOD, it doesn't know and just prints what it gets. Additionally, the people using this software and the people hanging up the sign get paid too little to care about things that look wrong, so they follow the directions to the letter, and viola! A combined software and process WTF is born.

The second B A is superfluous, Start starts the game, and Select is only for people who actually had friends to play with, as it selects 2 player mode.

That "can we have real text" line just screams Project Manager -- the most useless overrated selfimportant job on Earth! Their negative-value-add function is to tie up developers in endless meetings where they say "can we have" over and over when they really mean "would you do". Because Project Managers never do anything themselves.

In fact I'm amazed one went so far as to figure out how to type their "can we have" question into the message area.

Too bad while she (98.3% of them are female, and the rest are postop trannies) was there she didn't go ahead and put the "real text" there, since it is likely her job to gather that requirement. Not that they ever do.

Useless, I tell you. Completely useless. Worse than useless. WTF.

"somehow I don't think 'disinfect' is close enough to 'report as false alert' to be a suitable replacement"

I saw a "suitable" default like this once, years ago, when we still had to routinely defragment disks. Doing that was referred to as a "CONDENSE ALL". It was rahther slow, requiring 45 minutes, and the system was unusable for timesharing for the entire period.

There was this other cool command you could use (I thought) to report free space on a volume. This is an approximation of my command sequence.

        > FREESPC 1
FREESPC CAN ONLY BE USED ON A PRIVATE VOLUME.
        ASSUMING YOU MEANT "CONDENSE 1,ALL".
