I can actually imagine him convincing everyone else to add in a detection against same-avatar use at the software level because that's not civilised.
That would mean licensing PhotoDNA - can't see them doing that :-)

    chubertdev:
HTML5 validation will allow you to add a `unique` attribute to the avatar image upload element, so you can prevent duplicate avatars on the client-side. After implementing this, we'll have funny exploiting the lack of server-side validation.
Should have read your post before I replied... is that really possible? Even with minor modifications like altering a few pixels?

I think this is in the future of HTML5 before it becomes an official spec. There's years yet for that, I gather.

For us not familiar to imperial, how is this convertible to bananas?

No, I'm sure they'd write their own home-grown matching thing. And it's not hard to guess how well it wouldn't work.

I thought the Power Statistics one was shot after reverting from daylight savings time to standard time.

Would Andrew A. be happier if Prolink2u's site only had pages in Chinese and Malay? Though maybe they'd need separate pages for Malay and Indonesian, since those differ as much as English and American do, almost as much as Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional. Though Prolink2u ought to be embarrassed because English is common in Singapore as well as parts of Malaysia and Indonesia, and they should have had someone check it, just as I check my boss's English and he checks my Japanese.

A form that I had to file recently now demands birthdates in the Taisho, Showa, or Heisei era. The form no longer has a selection for Meiji era, which ended in 1912. TRWTF is that the form is from the equivalent of the social security agency and involves verification of records relating to social security. Does this mean Misao Okawa can't get her pension any more?

Actually that is a common falicy. An amber light means, "Stop if you can; clear the intersection if you can't stop." Too many people use it to mean, "Gun it through the intersection before the light turns red." OBTW, a red light means, "Do not enter the intersection," not "Creep into the intersection as you wait for it to turn green."

Hint: when converting weight limits, don't round up.
Good point. That could lead to some over-stresses somewhere. Of course, using a smaller unit might make things easier as well.
  • (disco) in reply to Cbuttius

Well, actually, they do have a nice round number...rendered in the most stupid way possible. You see, 7.87365 stone is exactly...50 kg. Plus or minus 0.00003 kg.

Oh, and the battery: The apparent backward movement is just time dilation. It's one of those new-fangled Faster than Light batteries.

It also does not mean, "Stop, but if you get impatient and there's no oncoming traffic, go through the intersection anyway," like some clown did on my way to work this morning (or yesterday, for most of you reading this).

When I handed in the broken one I learned that the weight limit for that chair was 90 kg.

Really? Searching IKEA's site would lead me to believe that that model of chair's weight limit is probably 170kg. 90kg would only make sense as a limit on a child's chair.

There are OSS alternatives. (I've got some colleagues who work with one of them.)

\*shrug* It's what they told me. Perhaps they changed it, the episode took place about 5 years ago.
