    Hurrah!

  • 5|i(3_x (unregistered)

    Yey!

  • Trevel (unregistered)

And this is the point where he tries to convince us all that the name was only changed in the first place so he could do this post just now. I, for one, believe him. Well done! Not many could pull off a satire of this nature!

  • Mithras (unregistered)

Spectacular analysis. I am confident that future site renamings will meet the high standards of the past three.

  • Karl von L. (unregistered)

HooraY! Long live the new, new, new, name!

  • Jim (unregistered)

    About time!

Thought you could outsmart us, eh? It didn't work for KFC, and it won't work for you!

    WTF?

    KFC?

  • (cs)

Wait, the site name changed? I been coming here from www.thedailywtf.com the whole time. There was no new name.

  • anonymoose (unregistered)

So does this make my "Worse than failure" sticker worthless or a collectible?

Note from Alex: As is policy with all Site Renamings, if the New, New, New name remains in production for a week, there will be another Free Stickers week to celebrate!

  • Tim (unregistered) in reply to quamaretto

    Precisely.

  • (cs)

    Free stickers for all!

    (please?)

  • (cs) in reply to anonymoose

    Both.

  • peterchen (unregistered)

    a worthless collectible, maybe?

The point of this site is calling things by their name. Removing the "What The Fuck" part tainted credibility of that. Good it's back - but omehow, it doesn't feel the same WTF it was once... ;P

  • ewww (unregistered)

Tomorrow, the New, New, New, New Name "Worse Than Failure" will be introduced.

  • (cs)

Worse Than F-?! Okay, as one who actually liked the old name (no, not the old old old name, the old old name. The one with three words), I now officially say: Boo! Now, before I go crying in a corner, let me propose a new name for future use [1]: Where's The Funny?

[1] Probably when the site really goes downhill.

P.S. I hope that the old domain name will stay operational.

  • PoorContractorAtInternetGiant (unregistered) in reply to anonymoose

    Yes!

  • (cs) in reply to anonymoose

That was some brilliant satire. Meta-satire even. Approved!

  • Anonymous Coward (unregistered)

YES! This site has never been anything but The Daily WTF!

  • Anonymous Coward (unregistered)

    Wow, That's Fantastic...

    Dave:

To be fair, the KFC name-change wasn't KFC's idea. Though the reasons behind it are more than worthy of WTFery.

    So, the new URL is...

    http://TheDailyWorseThanFailureWTF.com !?

    (seriously, what will it be?)

  • s. (unregistered) in reply to anonymoose
    anonymoose:
So does this make my "Worse than failure" sticker worthless or a collectible?

Not at all. It will make for an entirely unique and special memento of the short Time Of The Mistake. Just like misprinted post stamps or weird value coins and notes that were present for a short time then the releaser decided They Were Not Such A Good Idea After All(tm) and withdrew them, it will make a very precious collectible.

  • (cs)

For those who love the site's content but experience cognitive dissonance over its name due to early religious or cultural training, I propose a G-rated alternative new, new, new name:

    TheDailyWotThuh...

  • Mark Woodman (unregistered)

You've managed to perfectly model how and why our tax dollars get spent in government and defense programs. Thank you!

  • (cs)

That was great, Alex. I had to bottle a really powerful laugh that was dying to break free. My eyes are watering.

In a way, this little satire of yours is better than some of the recent articles.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. ;-)

  • Zygo (unregistered)

We'll be fighting on the boards With our captchas on our screens And the morals that he tells us will be gone And the man who spurred us on Sits in judgment of his wrong We decide and the trollers sing the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my iPod and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We aren't renamed again

The change has come and gone We knew it all along He was worried 'bout the f-word, that's all And the site looks just the same And history ain't changed And banner ads are still blocked by greasemonkey

    [chorus]

I'll move my mouse and my keyboard aside If we happen to be left half alive I'll post all my comments and smile at the sky For I know that the hypnotized never lie

    Do ya?

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

There's nothing on the site Looks any different to me And the address is replaced, by-the-bye And the search bar on the right Is still the search bar on the right But the captchas have grown longer overnight

    [chorus]

Meet the new name Same as the old name

  • (cs) in reply to Mark Woodman

I knew that sounded familiar, but I was so busy trying to restrain myself that my brain couldn't match it to anything.

  • Caving to pressure (unregistered)

It sounds like you were just caving to pressure from people who were upset over a minor name change in the first place. I, for one, will never ever use this site again since you changed the name back! (j/k)

  • (cs)

So, does this mean that the name change from "The Daily WTF" to "Worse Than Failure" was, in fact, worse than failure?

Hey, whatever you call it, the writing's great guys - kudos!

  • (cs)

Dammit, Alex! You freaked me out for a sec.

When I did that reply, I couldn't figure out why I needed a CAPTCHA. Then I saw I was signed off. THEN I saw that it had taken me to "thedailywtf.com".

    Geez..

  • Tj (unregistered) in reply to anonymoose

surely my internet bookmark or browser cache will be a collectible as well, antiques roadshow here I come.

captcha: inhibeo sounds like a spell in harry potter followed by gggw gryffindor girls gone wild

Update the title in the RSS feed already :P

P.S. All Hail The Daily WTF!

    Zygo:
    <snip>

How the heck do you people come up with these things? My lack of creativity is starting to really show after all these years of seeing what other techies can do.

  • Grump (unregistered)

    I think worseThanDailyTheFailureWtfailure.com is available.

    Just a suggestion

  • Keko (unregistered)

what about "Worse than the daily wtf"

  • Kinglink (unregistered)

so wait, what you're say now is you agree with most of those comments that it's fine if you said it's Worse than failure but just leave it as "The daily WTF"

God, and then you write up this little thing that should be a WTF in itself (or maybe it's pretending it's a WTF).

Let's make it simple. Leave the site alone, just post the good stories you always have and who gives a crap what you tell you're grandmother the site is about, you could have said "worse than failure" to the "WTF unaware" with out telling us. Instead you made a big deal about it and all this stupid crap happened and then the rebranding and have generally proven that even this site has a WTF about itself.

I never knew a web site could jump the shark until the name change.

Oh, 'tis truely a glorious day! Not only has the Dutch parliament voted in favour of using open standards (ODF, most notably) by default as of, well, ASAP, but also my favourite techie-site has reverted an ill-advised change and will once again be known by its One True Name.

    Rejoice, comrades! Champagne anyone?

  • Cochrane (unregistered)

Finally. Telling someone what "The Daily WTF" is about is easy: It tells stories that make you got WTF about IT and programming. But "Worse than Failure" or "The Daily Worse Than Failure"? That title doesn't say anything, at least not as close and short as TDWTF

  • rd (unregistered)

Do you really expect us to believe that "Alex of early 2007" and "Alex of late 2007" are two entirely separate people, one of whom is no long with WTF? I hereby charge that they are indeed one and the same person and that this is all just an elaborate scam perpetrated by "Alex" just to cover up the fact that yet another new new new new new name will be revealed soon: "Whimsical Technology Foibles."

  • (cs) in reply to Kinglink

Oh come on. It's not that bad. I really had a hard time restraining myself from busting out laughing. This "article" is great! What better than have a real WTF originating from a site about WTFs?

  • Dave (unregistered)

    What will grandma think?

  • kernelman (unregistered)

Excellent. Spine existence confirmed. PC FTL. WTF FTW.

I trust you've learned your lesson about using such undisciplined agile site renaming processes. Using a rigorous waterfall model, though perhaps slower and more expensive, would have resulted in a higher quality product.

  • Big Dave (unregistered)

Yeah, but the REAL WTF is

Hold on, what was the question?
