Just visit the worsethanfailure URL, that spells it out fine.

No, it doesn't. That is, it works, but it's a redirect to thedailywtf.com. So the "innocent children" will still see thedailywtf.com URL and logos.

If you really want to keep everyone happy, the way to do it is to allow both URLs to work with no redirection, just a common codebase and a common DB, which changes logo and such depending on which URL it is called as.

But I prefer thedailywtf.com, anyway, so yay!

Spelling out "Worse Than Failure" makes it easier for me to share some of the articles with my high school computer science students. Please consider spelling it out once again so it is obviously school appropriate.

    Thank you.

This is misleading... the students will not get the level of crap when they see a story and exclaim "Wow that sure WAS a worse than failure!" However when their fellow classmates hears someone exclaim "WHAT THE F***?" They'll pay attention and learn from mistakes :-)

I am happy that "TheDailyWTF" is back. I mean that is the honest impression I get after looking over some of the horrid XML samples, J2SEE code, and code that does not even understand the basic concepts of for statement. It just irritates me that school as to be some politically correct. It just saddens me to see that nobody understands that most people have different personality suits they put on for the occasion. That to me is frustrating. However I feel your pain. I teach two night courses at a local tech college and have to sensor for them as well. Luckily I get a few brain dead individuals every year and I can use their code for examples after they are gone, with just adding the phrase "A Former Student". I find that works well.

This is a WTF solution. Let the user choose what the name is!

Have www.thedailywtf.com be "The Daily WTF" Have www.thedailyworsethanfalure.com be "The Daily Worse Than Failure" Have www.worsethanfailur.com" be "Worse than Failure"

All three addresses go to the same site, but with a different logo and $sitename setting. It could work.... and would fit very well.

Worse Than The Daily WTF's Failure? Worse Than The Daily WTF? The Daily What The Failure? The Daily Worse Than WTF?

There's a punk band out there called MDC. You should just do what they do:

Millions of Dead Cops Multi-Death Corporation Millions of Damned Christians Metal Devil Cokes Magnus Dominus Corpus

Best. Namechange. Ever. Long live "The Daily WTF"!

Call it what you will, the best 'new' feature is the featured comments. I loves me some comments, but I hates the time I wastes.

For the "Safe For Kids" crowd, 'Worse than Failure' is not a bad idea. I like The Daily WTF, but it isn't the heart of the site.

    Just keep it coming, Alex.

WTF = Why The Flux ?

Wow, I haven't been to this site in a few weeks -- what a shock to see the old, good name returned!?

I just want you to know, I never used the other domain name.

  • Returning reader (unregistered)

I hadn't read the site in quite a while; I started reading the site less and less after the name change and soon stopped reading altogether.

A coworker told me that you've finally changed it back. Glad to hear it, I think I'll resume visiting the site.

  • Steve (unregistered) in reply to Penguin

Isn't the logical thing here to make keep both domains and make them both serve the same content? That can't be that hard to set up.

(the current name is much better than the new name imho. as confusing as that is.)

    Steve

This sort of whiny political correctness is precisely why Alex of Old was ousted in favour of Alex of New.

There are no swearwords in the site's title, and if any student queries you on the acronym or makes a smart comment, then you can shoot back the worse than failure expansion.

In the meantime, the rest of us who actually enjoy a laugh can bask in the site's true name being reinstated.

  • Maarten (unregistered) in reply to Penguin

Obviously, it just means Willow Tree Farm

    Just like NWTF

  • (cs)

well i never stopped typing in "thedailywtf.com" because it's much shorter. Didn't you change the name originally because yer ma asked what site you ran, and you didn't want to have to explain what "wtf" meant? tsk tsk.

I assume the worsethanfailure.com domain will stick around for a while more, if not forever, so you should have no problems.

And even if that domain name becomes unavailable, the site is currently the top google result for "worse than failure", and with proper keywords added in the html should remain so in the future.

Also, I don't see a problem in spelling out "the daily worse than failure" to your mates and then telling them to abbreviate the last three words - and if they come up with some non-school-appropriate associations: while in school, put blame squarely on their dirty subconsciousnesses; while out of school, congratulate them on reaching the next level of insight and truth, or something.

After all, "The Daily What The Fuck" is the one and only genuine true Name, no matter how many Site Renamings we suffer.

  • Damian Yerrick (unregistered) in reply to Penguin

Worsethanfailure.com still redirects to The Daily WTF, and when people ask you what WTF means, you can tell them that WTF can still be parsed as Worse Than Failure.

  • vsync (unregistered) in reply to Penguin

Penguin, get over yourself. If anyone asks, tell them that it stands for "The Daily Worse Than Failure".

Fuck it, I hated The new names the moment they were spawned. I stopped reading the site for a whole year before hearing it got its name back again. I'll be subscribing to the RSS now again.
