    CAN HAS WTF?

  • (cs)

LOL nice one :D I actually use Qunu (as an expert) and know one of the primary devs. Can only imagine the look on his face when he sees this WTF ;)

P.S. I think the title was misspelled... Actual spelling here: http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/9927/error0kn.png

I'd be more peeved over the fact that you have to pay to go pick it up.

It's called shipping and handling for a reason.

You still have to package all the items up, label it for the customer, have something to match up the payment method when they come pick it up, pay someone to do all this, etc.

Depending on the size and nature of the business, they may or may not be able / willing to absorb that cost. Larger stores have the kind of infrastructure and size to be able to offer it for no charge for the "instant gratification" customer.

    SM:
I don't know about that one. From a customer standpoint, the only really important detail (that's worth paying a different price over) is how long it takes. As long as I get it in 2 days, I don't really give a rat's ass how they send it.

You be surprised how many people do. Some people feel express delivery is handled more carefully than ground. Certain things can't go onto a plane and HAVE to be shipped ground. Etc, etc. There's perfectly logical reasons to have it how they do (it is a little weasely to have it in hours instead of days though).

This is a really lame Error'd.

Another disagreement: I live out in the boonies where the USPS doesn't deliver to street addresses; everyone in my town has a PO Box. Therefore, it is often important for me to know what service something will be shipped by, and I would be willing to pay more to have a package not delivered by DHL after a bad experience with them. So sometimes service does matter.

In fact, this whole article, save for the hidden ASUS feature (which, BTW, hasn't been explained to us how to get to) are just BARELY WTF's themselves.
Here is a forum post on ASUS's site where other users get the error too. http://preview.tinyurl.com/3akp6m

I don't know how to reproduce it, it just appeared one day, i pressed one of the buttons and it crashed out, haven't had it happen again though.

In Soviet Russia ASUS owns you :)

Personally, I do care. If it's shipped through "La Poste" and I'm not home, like because I'm at work, I'll get a note in the mailbox to pick up the parcel at the PO within the next 7 days, which I can do on my way to work. If it's a private delivery service like Fedex, I'll have to arrange to be at home for the stuff to be delivered.

It really sucks to take half a day off work, just to have something delivered to you.

(hint: how many hours are there in a day?)

At 8 business hours a day the express delivery would take 6 to 9 days.

  • Zadkiel (unregistered) in reply to Thijs

I don't get the last one.

2-3 days is 48-96 hours 48-72 hours is faster (will arrive on the second day)

So yes, it's more expensive. That's cos it's faster. Where's the WTF?

Nope. 'in 2-3 days' covers the period from the start of hour 48 (start of day 2) to the end of hour 95 (end of day 3). It's a 2 day period, and thus 48 hours long.

48-72 hours is the start of day 2 to the end of day 2. It's 24 hours long, and thus a 1 day period.

"Day" has two meanings. You apparently default to the one I don't in cases of ambiguity. Do you have any evidence about which way the shipping company goes? If not, your assumption is no more or less valid than mine.

I work for a UPS Store. Number 3 is not necessarily an error. In the UPS world, Next Day Air is always a one day delivery. Second Day Air is always a 2 day delivery. 3 Day Select is always a 3 day delivery. Ground varies between 1 and 6 days depending on location.

So when someone wants to send something that's within the 1 day ground delivery area, they can do that for (say) ten dollars and get it there tomorrow. But if they send it Second Day Air, it'll cost 20 bucks and won't get there until the day after tomorrow. It's not an error, that's just the way it works.

    CAPTCHA: Scooter. Seems appropriate.

Nope, Pixmania is a France-based online shop that sells PC/photo/office hardware. And the screenshot is clearly from their site.

Believe me, the rest of their web presence is just as hilarous and confusing. It doesn't matter though, because Pixmania sucks in every way from my experience.

Wait, the start of day 2 is the beginning of hour 48???

I would have thought the start of day 2 would the beginning of the 25th hour (or the beginning of hour 24 if you start counting at 0:00). Hour 48 would mark the end of day 2.

2-3 days == 48-72 hrs. But you can go ahead and pay more.

re "express delivery": I ordered an urgently needed part for the campus radio station on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. (For non-USA readers: Thanksgiving Day is on a Thursday, so it generally makes for a 4-day weekend.) I asked for express shipment, at a cost of about $20 USD for shipping a part weighing maybe 200g. I knew they wouldn't deliver on Thanksgiving, but figured I'd get it Friday. Friday afternoon, no delivery. I check tracking, package is at nearby depot; call UPS (the shipping company) to inquire. They say: "We knew [the university] is closed for the weekend, so we didn't bother trying to deliver." Can I get the package? "No, the depot is closed for the weekend." Package shows up Monday, less than 120 hours after being shipped! Standard ground shipping would normally take one day from this location (less than 200km. away). "By the book, Captain, hours could seem like days."
