He forgot to add this clause

    WHERE Book.IsHoly = 1 OR ( udf_UserBelievesIn('SantaClause', 'ToothFairy', 'Creationism') = 1)

There, I think that should cover it, no?

What about modern books based on ignorance, superstition, torture and fear?
Obviously what the library needs is access to the CIA/FBI/DHS database on everyone, so that search routines can sort on the user's historical behavior and preferences, as some people weigh these variables differently than others.

This is the software responsible that runs the library: http://www.sirsidynix.com/

The availability of a free word/phrase search function is actually justifiable. What is completely bogus wrong is a) it is the default search mode at this library b) there seems to be no choice for a proper keyword search.

The library system is obvious from the pic, BTW.

Actually not a bad idea. There are a surprising number of programmers who think that reading binary is some kind of "1337" activity like solving a really hard puzzle, even though it's actually not difficult at all.

If you want a real programming-related puzzle, try Manufactoria.

TRWTF is using "the" in a search query
If the search was using "The" and not ignoring it, wouldn't there be far more than 1632 results? (assuming their library has more than 2000 books)

I've done the Mr. Testupacc problem before. We sent a survey to a real customer based on a test transaction. Not only was the customer confused, but they were a high up muckety muck in our company who knew exactly who to contact in my org to ask why this happened.
I suppose it's better than sending it to someone who has likely almost forgotten that your company even existed, and so really confusing them. Or having them post it to a web site like this one.

Not that there aren't plenty of better reasons to dislike Virgin Media, of course.

I'm not sure I see the wtf in the library search. They all seem to be about some form of "bible" except the Berentstein Bears one, and based on the subject, I wouldn't be surprised if the full description mentioned the Christian bible.

I would. There seems to be a pretty sharp line between secular and religious children's books, and I don't recall ever encountering religion in a Berenstain Bears book.

Mind you, I haven't had much exposure to them since I was a child myself, so I suppose it's possible they've changed.

I'd be less surprised if there were a user review from some parent complaining about any discussion of morals that doesn't mention the Christian bible.

That search engine is working as intended. Archaic books based on ignorance, superstition, torture and fear should be down-ranked.
Interesting fact: the most frequently repeated command in the entire Bible is "Do not fear / Do not be afraid."

As it turns out, all sin at its root is caused by a lack of trust in God's goodness. Humans are most likely to make such foolish choices when we are afraid. Hence, God's frequent repetition of that command.

Good thing the Old Testament has been mostly deprecated, then. All the plagues and telling people to rape, raid and pillage could be considered a bit scary.

WRT the search results: Where's the WTF? The search query was very unspecific. The lack of stop words aside, there are millions of possible bibles the user could have been looking for. Without context, it's pretty hard to guess what the user meant.
