Having installed Postgresql many times, that is not an unusual message - it always creates a ridiculous random string for you, and idiotically doesn't let you select it. I usually print-screen and save the image in the install directory just in case, but I have never actually needed the password for anything.

You should be able to highlight the whole box and copy/paste it into notepad. Works for most error messages and is so very useful.

Situations like this are exactly why password generation shouldn't be done this way. True, it's very hard for someone to guess your password or to try and brute force it, but why should they try when they can just look around the directory and get the password that way?

Addendum (2008-02-29 09:04): Also you can apparently get an XCOM FOR AS/400 RISC 1YR MAINTONLY FOR BARF, EHEALTH CONSOLE ONLY FOR BARF, and FAULT MGMT SMALL BUNDLE ONLY FOR BARF.

Nah, I think the amount of BARF keeps growing, and the price is for 100% of BARF.

It's near SF University, so they have a steady supply.

Just the law of supply and demand. Supply is low, while traffic generated by all the people reading the comments and checking on the price suggests increasing demand, resulting in increase in price.

Well, technically you can't select text in a Windows dialog box. Oddly enough (and completely inconsistant with anything else I've seen in Windows) you can copy it anyway, even without being able to select it.

The Recycle Bin dialog isn't ^C-able because it's not a message box. You can tell because the buttons aren't centered, and also that it has an icon that isn't one of the 4 possible MessageBox icons (!-in-yellow-triangle, X-in-red-circle, ?-in-balloon, or i-in-balloon)

  • Spike (unregistered)

That password thing isn't that weird. It's generated for the postgres user (one that hasn't rights on anything other than the database). If you don't supply your own password (it is asked), or you provide a pathetic one it generates a good password and lets you know that password. You can't select it but you can copy it to your clipboard with ctrl-c (standard windows functionality). And if you are going to save it in a file on your system... it can be reached when you have physical access to the box so then you can just change that password with "net user postgres newpassword". And again it's only to create a sort of sandbox for the serversoftware so you won't do anything with it.

Conclusion: this isn't a wtf, it's a clever sollution to get something safe in a security nightmare environment.

It works just fine if you go to run, type in something random, and use that one. It probably has to be some standard Windows component or something, not XUL.
