    Although I've lived in California for eight years, I'm not American, so I didn't know that "ass" was really that much more emotionally charged than "butt". Neither ass nor butt bother me much (you are free to take that phrase any way you like), but does replacing "ass" with "butt" make it any better? "Arse", yes, I see a problem with that ...but "ass" just seems harmless

    We've use "ass", "butt", "bum" and "booty" interchangeably with our two pre-school-age daughters. Are we setting them up for disaster when they're older?

    Ass is generally considered to be "offensive" slang for butt in America. While I am not offended by it, there are those that will be and if your two young daughters were to say "ass" in pre-school or elementary school, you would undoubtedly be told that they should not be using that kind of language from the teacher and/or many parents.

    Ewwwwwww.

    "We've use "ass", "butt", "bum" and "booty" interchangeably with our two pre-school-age daughters. Are we setting them up for disaster when they're older?"

    Possibly, depending on where you go.

    In my experience: 'Bum' and 'bottom' are usually fine. 'Butt' is considered rude buy no one really cares. 'Ass' is considered vulgar. Depending on how it's used, 'booty' can be vulgar, or not.

    I must say, I too was thinking that "the Real WTF" is that Americans consider "ass" and "tit" to be more offensive than "butt" and "breast" - they all seem like pretty feeble euphemisms to my (British) ear, making the whole thing rather ridiculous. A bit like replacing "shucks" with "sugar" (or maybe the other way around...)

    Still, "rebreastled" is an abolutely superb word, with all sorts of crazy connotations...

    Why are human psyche's so fragile that a simple concatenation of 3 or more letters can offend them?

    It's all about context. For example, "Lick my 'butt'" is several degrees more offensive than "Kiss my 'ass'" but nowhere near as bad as "Go fuck your dead grandmother in the 'behind'."

    I just figured it out!!!!!! "Clbuttic" means "Classic".

    I did a Google search as recommended. Something caught my eye, some web page source that includes the following line of code. This is Real WTF (tm):

    So I searched for "Clbutt". And I got this result:

    "We [Greater Kansas City Wine Clbuttic] held our 7th annual amateur wine contest last weekend. Best-Of-Show and Best-Of-Clbutt winners are shown here with their prizes. A full list of all winners can be seen on our web page www.cellarmasters.org"

    So I was looking at this, and it finally dawned on me.

    Butt == Ass

    clASSic == clBUTTic

    Maybe some smart-alec software thought that BUTT was less offensive than ASS!

    I think we'll find that all occurrences of 'Clbuttic' originated in some automated, screwed up way like this. Can anybody refute that?
