TRWTF is "flavoured vodka"...but that's the only time they use the non-American spelling.
Or correct spelling, as I like to call it.

I've seen a stuck Linux boot screen on one of the cable channels on WoW.

Wow, that sounds way more entertaining than most of the programming I get on my cable. And educational, too!

When Shakespeare referred to "the undiscovered country", he was talking about Hell. Hamlet, Act III, Scene 1 -- Hamlet explains that he is afraid to take revenge for the murder of his father because of "the dread of something after death, the undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns". It seems a little funny to ask people if they are from Hell. Just who are their customers, anyway?

Having installed that Tax software before, I can tell you that you shouldn't be checking on all the boxes anyways.

Each of those boxes requires an additional license cost, and since the previous step of the installer already polled your license info from the developer's servers, that form is already pre-populated with the licenses you have.

Only large accounting firms would need all the options turned on, and they would probably have multiple install images setup anyways with the limited licenses each individual regional office or team would need.

Am i Really better off using Open Office for my documents and Spreadsheets? Really?
Probably, if only for the ability to update it without having the entire UI changed around - and paying $120 or more for the privilege (price taken from MS Office 2010 home&student). (Apple's iWork, while less flexible, works better and cost $80.) I'd suggest trying LibreOffice nowadays, though, because Oracle made a political SNAFU. It's essentially the same but a little better.

Did I mention that for these particular documents, the only reason you're forced into updates normally is that MS wills it so (generating revenue by breaking compatibility)? It's slowly changing from just the competition.

Another argument is because you can both bring along the same software when you change out computer brands or OS, and share it with your friends. Sure, there are people who think nothing of copying software without permission, but do you really prefer earning the enmity of those who (indirectly) control your computer?

I think TRWTF is that people use Windows for ad displays instead of, say, Linux or QNX. There's something to be said for simply playing a bunch of mpeg files in a loop, using the FB display driver on Linux. You can probably put the player as the only thing fired up by init, and it'll be very quick to boot as well. It's so much simpler than futzing around with Windows.

Some people, when confronted with a problem, think “I know, I'll use Windows.” Now they have two problems.

I work in a non-tech industry, and i often find it easier to use windows for displays just so other people can update it more easily.

TRWTF is claiming that 'category_name is niet gedef' is dutch :p

the last word got cut off, it should have read 'category_name is niet gedefinieerd'. Splitting hairs here, I know.

TRWTF is that people use Windows XP instead of Linux, there must be something wrong with Linux after all. People are salvaging XP machines and using it on panels i think. Linux is what used to be put in salvaged things, now its all lost.

But that Bugcheck A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) is almosty hardware fail. If Linux was used, then we will have some red screen.

I know. Until I saw all the pix of failed windows ad displays, I'd assumed they probably used some proprietary minimal embedded system, just enough to run the ads, or maybe an ultra minimal Linux install. Crazy.
