No one noticed that if you had typed "DisplayMesageToUser()" instead of "//", you'd get a compile error? There is no "DisplayMesageToUser()" ...
There's no language or code library in use anywhere in the world with a function named DisplayMessageToUser??

Do you always try to compile anecdotal code-snippets and complain when you're missing the language/libraries from which they were snipped?

    (i.e. you're a dumb-smart-arse)

I feel bad for the second WTF's developer who seems like a developer in an environment like mine.

How do you "handle" exceptions when not only is every resource you're program references, and every resource the common code references, and 80% of the code in your project not written by you completely unreliable?

In short, it could take months just to find everything that might go wrong for a given request let alone how to handle those cases correctly. In some cases you're just ahead of the game if you don't crash the multi-milllion dollar company-wide mainframe that 300 poorly written web apps and 300,000 poorly written COBOL modules run on.

I wonder if Thiago Almeida is trying to start the same application I was just the other day. It was a proprietary marketing tool that has not worked properly since it was installed twelve months ago alongside their non-functioning CRM system.

The company is a slimy, extorting bunch of cowboys. Hold on, am I talking about the CRM company or microsft here?

"Aaaaaag" and "AAAAAAAAAGGG" aren't names, they're subtitles.

Not to mention the various options for the placement of the selection controls... I can think of 3 without trying: Ordinary centre console placement (T-Bar) Steering column Buttons on the dash (seen this in a Ford Transit).

RTS Buses (manufactured by GMC, TMC, or NovaBus depending on which decade you're in) have an automatic transmission with buttons for R, N, D, 2, and 1 on a little box level with the left-side of the driver's seat. Each button has a red light that lights up when that selection is active, so this actually doubles as the display too.

The page with the 2 dozen transmission types is just a mistake in the query. The guy who coded the line to get the types of transmissions available for the models forgot to say "SELECT DISTINCT transmission_type..." Oops.

  • uXuf (unregistered)

The transmission types one is a particularly common mistake that I've seen in beginner (ASP.Net) programmers who fail to validate the IsPostBack value. Populating that select works the first time round but on subsequent postbacks if the select is not cleared the list grows exponentially!
