I was mostly interested to see in the first image that Fraa Jonathan was apparently entering a liaison with (presumably Suur) Mia. They should be sure to register it with their Concent, unless I suppose it's a Tivian liaison.

LOL, I thought it was a pretty cool idea myself. I like geek humor.

The funny thing is that the comment title also does the < conversion.

Incidentally, the article's title reminded me of my newbie internet days, when I didn't know what that =) thing was. Everyone seemed to type it in posts or emails, but I didn't get it; funnily I did get :) since its first appearance.

When I finally got what =) was, it was because someone did it in ASCII art, and I just rotated the screen 90 degrees. =)

    Eric:
TRWTF is that Jonathan's message seems to be in Swedish but the Amazon printout failed to produce the Swedish o (å) (in "Fra"), plus the missing n.

"Til" is not swedish, it's danish or norwegian, and in both those languages, from is "fra".

Hiring a proofreader might not have fixed Sarah's textbook. These errors could have been introduced after the first proof. Certainly the font problem which screwed up the "it" ligature could easily have been introduced at pre-press. Of course someone should have checked before the final printing run.

    Bank holidays?

Yep, bank holidays. Wikipedia is your friend.

I'm interested to see that HSBC seem to think that Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day aren't bank holidays...

  • Jonathan (unregistered) in reply to Eric

Wow, I actually decided to read through.

Anyway, Eric, that wasn't really a WTF, since the message was in Danish, which is similar to but different from Swedish, and there 'fra' means 'from'. No å in that word.

And by the way, the Swedish o is å? I don't believe that's true. Historically, å was written as aa in Danish until 1949. (I suppose similar things are true for Swedish, although I stand to be corrected.)

Oh my goodness, I have no idea why, but that smiley faced unsuccessful install has got me in hysteria, it's just... very funny to me, especially that little bouncy guys expression, and the dead planned manner of explanation of failure... just excellent!

Update from the distant future - <3 actually works now. I got a couple presents delivered with a gift-tag with nothing but "<3" in the center.
