Actually it's mathematically possible to drive that vehicle comfortably on a catenary road.

Almost not a wtf, and the fact that it's almost makes it even more wtf. I don't think it's entirely wrong to want expressions for try, if, and for, these have the wrong return type for the catch and finally.

Not saying that would be so great, but at least it'd be arguably useful. Failing that, this is, truely, wtf.

  • (disco) in reply to Martijn_Hoekstra

There's an expression for if already: ?:

On further "analysis", I found out that the team had never used exception handling before (or since, because I left the team shortly afterwards).

That might make sense in C++.

Regarding maintenance costs, not sure about the newer stuff, but no, not really. Not on a Xantia it wasn't. More expensive, that is.

All right, in my personal experience which is admittedly anecdotal but so is yours, hydropneumatic suspension proved more expensive to maintain on the two Citroens I owned than on other cars I had around the same period. Will that do?

  • (disco) in reply to kupfernigk

Oh well, your suspension mileage may vary, I guess.

    You seem rankled.

Citroën still produces cars with hydropneumatic suspension. Regarding maintenance costs, not sure about the newer stuff, but no, not really. Not on a Xantia it wasn't. More expensive, that is.
I thought French cars are bought like printers: if there's something wrong, it might be cheaper to buy a new one.
  • (disco) in reply to JBert

Maybe. But it's not the parts, it's the money you spent on fuel looking for a mechanic that knows how to fix it.

Why? Because the code base is not exception-safe and will leak memory when one is thrown? I don't think I've ever heard a valid reason for not using exceptions in C++.

Well, you can say a lot about Jeff, but at least he hasn't written an in-house VBS-based language.

    Yet.

  • (disco) in reply to Maciejasjmj

His would probably be markdown based (somehow, don't ask me how it would work, but it would make sense to him), barely be able to do nested loops (if you add newlines in the proper place), and any subsequent development of the language would be discussions on whether to use " or as quote marks.

That the brand name is synonymous (once translated) with terrible car is perhaps a clever bit of foreshadowing.

Only to the extent that bikeshedding happens. He'd want to use smart quotes. I'm not sure if he'd use the actual smart quote characters, or be one of those retro types that fake it with '' and ...aw, shit. I don't think you can put backquotes in backquotes like I just did with the single-quotes.

  • (disco) in reply to FrostCat

    The character \ is a backquote`

I can escape the backquote, but it doesn't hide the escape character. :wtf:

  • (disco) in reply to NedFodder

Yeah, I know, I spent a couple of minute in it. I wanted two backquotes in that formatting. You can't use [code].

`` <-- Let's see if that works after baking. Probably will get stripped, though.

  • (disco) in reply to FrostCat

    There we go.

    And @aliceif = :hanzo:

    But mine is shorter!

  • (disco) in reply to aliceif

Heh. You neither. <code> is the actual tag Discurse applies, but you can't use that tag, although it'll show in raw, so it's not actually stripped.

`` is what I wanted. What you got to display after the ninja edit isn't. I used the @-mention style.

  • (disco) in reply to FrostCat

Heh, I got like 3 ninja edits in. Also, you two managed to get different-looking results.

At this point you'd just look up the code-point value of smart quotes and insert it directly, and it's *still* less painful than Discowtfbbqmarkhtmlcode.

    Care to explain please?

All major French car manufacturers I know of are just named after the surnames of their respective founders. <I'm probably wooshing hard here, but I can't come up with any translation that would result in "terrible car">
