    Dear Anonymous Anonymous,

Stop trying to make fetch happen.

    Love, Microsoft

(P.S. At the time I posted this, authentication isn't working.)

A few seconds from now? I saw a post of facebook once (still have the screenshot!) that said "35 minutes from now"

You got to love all the weird things that can jump up when you try to figure out the time around the daylight savings time changes. 2:30 AM happens twice or never on one particular night. Unless, of course, someone is screwing around with the server's clock for some other reason.

The Outlook one just says your mailbox PST file is in the old 97-2002 format, which is presumably ANSI for Windows 9x/ME. If you want to store Unicode data you need a modern PST format. Chances are someone made a PST file and didn't understand what they were doing and chose a 20 year old file format.

The Visual Studio one could be trying to tell you to go to a different "Show output from" dropdown value. I don't use Git through VS so I can't say.

I don't think Disqus programmers planned for time travel, most likely they are using an external library to convert two timestamps to a nice readable format and that library has to account for future dates as it can be used to describe future events. That is good programming: not reinventing the wheel.

The bartender shouts, "Get out! We don't serve time-travelers here!"

A time traveler walks into a bar.

    A less techie version of:

    "Bang! Bang!"

    "Fire the tachyon gun!"

  • Prime Mover (unregistered) in reply to D-Coder

"We don't serve your sort in here," said the barman.

    A time-traveller goes into a bar.

  • Prime Mover (unregistered) in reply to Argle

    Oy, stop copying my jokes!

  • Argle (unregistered) in reply to Prime Mover

I will see what you did there.

  • (nodebb) in reply to Kleyguerth

The fun part likely comes with internationalization... At that point it becomes a matter of reinventing the whole car.

@Kleyguerth: Giving relative times is a piece of brain rot that's been taking over more and more discussion sites, so whatever library it is that's doing this must be very widely used. It makes dates on messages essentially useless for providing any kind of chronological order when they're all dated "more than a year ago", "around about three days ago", "last Thursday some time I think".

To quote Raymond Chen, I'm sure someone got a nice bonus for this feat of making message dates useless.

Just have the wordy version be clickable so you can see the true date/time stamp, along with timezone and then everyone can rest easy.

The time stamp one is actually AI-driven predictive text. It's predicting what someone is about to reply with.
