I don't know how you do your updates, but mine are always so that if they crash, the next update picks up the slack. But I admit: A lot of my colleagues first update the timestamp then starting the update so when those fail, they loose part of the data

Well let's hope the updates are not "Give me the update! - This is what changed from yesterday.", but rather "Give me what changed since XXXX. - Here it is, now you have data as of YYYY."
