I understand that there was once an instruction at a certain famous dog show that any dog committing a "fragrant error" would be disqualified.

Would a "liquid error" have a similar disqualification policy, I wonder?

The math one is easy. It's Javascript, so 1+7=17.

  • Raymond Meijer (google)

Well, 1 plus 7 equals 17, obviously. Tsk tsk...

  • Me (unregistered)

    1 + 7 = 10. ( In the octal system, anyway.)

  • RLB (unregistered)

    1 + 7 = 7a. Any other answer and you'll be ate alive.

    I'll get my robe.

  • clbutt (unregistered)

WordPress is written in PHP so the correct answer is probably "17" or NaN

The United States consulate in Frankfort is officially American territory, so if you are there, that would explain that. As for your billing address being in South Africa, well lots of my math students have problems with negative signs too, which would move you from within German borders to another continent.

Addendum 2019-06-07 09:07: A little research indicates that 33N, 18E puts your in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, well south and a little east of Germany. So much for that idea.

The United States consulate in Frankfort is officially American territory

No it isn't. Contrary to popular misconceptions, embassies and consulates remain the sovereign territory of the host nation.

    1 + 7 = 010, octal FTW! (Don't forget the leading 0, because C.)

Come on now. The only thing PHP ever got right is that "+" always adds numbers.

  • Anon (unregistered)

So someone from South Africa is running a server in the US consulate in Frankfurt. I don't see a WTF.

Munstrum passes humanity checkpoints by simply threatening Hex until it does what he wants. "Foolproof" becomes a lot harder when the fools are very determined, have nothing better to do until dinner, and can throw fireballs.

Maybe you tried to submit the same captcha twice, and the system will never let subsequent attempts pass.

  • (nodebb) in reply to Little Bobby Tables

As long as the liquid error remains internal it should still be okay with respect to judging. But I'd take it to a vet immediately afterwards.

I think they just really really want the United States to be part of the EU. Especially because then they can join the Eurovision.Penguin

  • markm (unregistered)

The billing address could be legitimate. A company with headquarters in Capetown and a remote site in Frankfurt might have the Capetown office paying for internet at all sites.

For the "United States" error, could it be Frankfurt, Michigan rather than Frankfurt am Main? That seems unlikely - I'm quite certain that Michigan is not in the Europe/Berlin time zone, nor is it in the EU. This one is definitely SNAFU'd.

  • WTFGuy (unregistered)

    As to VW's 1+7 != 8 ...

Most of these CAPTCHA things fail on time-out as well as on giving the wrong answer. I wonder if we're really seeing an instance of timeout with an inappropriate error message. As the site says, this is their fallback CAPTCHA feature, and testing of error modes of fallback features isn't always as thorough as it ought to be.

TightVNC's Zalgo text EULA isn't any worse than any normal EULA. Why not just be honest about how satanic all EULAs are?

And for the next one, also speaking of satanic, Salesforce is indeed an #error.

  • Nick (unregistered)

That license looks like the GPL. They don't call it a viral license for nothing.

  • JJ (unregistered)

That actually is latin. It's Cicero, starting in the middle of a word.

It's not like I've memorized De finibus bonorum et malorum (it's a book on ethics, and possibly the driest thing he ever wrote). This sentence I remember since I started thinking less than daily WTFs early on and then worried about having had a stroke, enough to read it a bunch of times

Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia sit amet, consectetur, adipsci velit, sed quia non numquam eius modi incidunt ut labore et dolore magnam aliquam quaerat voluptatem.

(Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires pain just because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure.)

We can probably blame Gutenberg for this, at least partly, since he built a printing press set a line at a time. It's not unreasonable to think printers might not have reused the types immediately, instead storing line blocks together in some storeroom for a fast reprint, nor is it unreasonable to think someone once went there, blindly grabbed a bunch of lines, possibly to see how much text they could fit in below an illustration, starting the whole Lorem ipsum by mistake.

  • Talis (unregistered)

I think someone spilled coffee over the server rack - it's a "internal liquid error"!

  • Atomizer (unregistered)

To prove you are a human, you must type "eight", not "8", stupid!

  • John (unregistered)

That "EULA" appears to be the GPL. Perhaps they included GPL components and hence were forced to offer their users the GPL rights, too. In that case, it's no wonder they don't want their users to read the license - among others, their users might accidentally read it and get to know they have the right to get the source code.

  • Possible Human (unregistered)

To prove you are a human, you have to type in a wrong answer. Only robots calculate correctly!

  • Kell S (unregistered)

TRWTF is that United States seems to have sneaked into EU without anyone noticing.
