Top five rules for writing your own date handling code:
Admin
Oh fuck, it is a perfectly valid date.
Admin
yep. y2k was a leap year
Admin
Look on the bright side: at least you spotted the mistake before anyone else did ;)

Scheduled publish date? This is an unlisted comment thread. CBA to check if the front page article is visible yet.
Admin
Yeah. I know a couple of this week's articles were dated "unpublished" when they first appeared; I don't remember for certain whether this was one of them, but I'd guess the powers that be just decided which day it's going to appear.
Admin
The only exception being you are Jon Skeet:

Of course, somebody's got to write the libraries for the rest of us to use. One hopes that they're knowledgeable and careful enough to get the edge cases right.
Admin
Those pesky time-travellers are here again.

That looks like a horrible cup to drink out of.
Admin
it's not so bad ac tually. use the sides not the corners ;-)
Admin
You can get the whole side of that cup in your mouth?
Admin
Admin
Admin
Hmm I wonder what could have prompted me to post that?
Ahh.... that's why? :imp:

There's a blowjob joke in there somewhere, but since it's my article, I'll pretend to be a professional.

Top five rules to get hired as a TDWTF writer:
Write an article about date validation
Write an article about xml parsing
Write an article about error handling
Write an article about Unit tests
Write an article about incompetent management (or how many call it: just management)
Admin
I done some research on this, and I have come to the conclusion that the hedgehog is causing an optical illusion.
It is in fact a tiny baby one, and the cup is very small. You can tell it is a baby one by calculating the ratio of the diameter of it's 23rd Lobar prickly spine, with the length of it's 5th anterior one. Both of which are clearly visible in the photograph.
Admin
I just find it amusing that the "next" Article just so happens to be about rolling your own Time Functions. When there is a flaming war going on just around the corner about just that
Admin
I must admit to have written my share of validation regexes which permitted any characters as separator because I didn't escape the dots. The older I get, the less I tolerate use of regexes.
Now the error handling, that's just mean. Get counseling. Well okay, you didn't know better. Oh you did, but you couldn't be arsed to extract it? I fucking hate you and I will delete all your code, replace you with a code generator written in Rust macros. I hope you're happy now.
Admin
Reading the first lines, i was already WTFing big time.. Even the most basic languages has date libraries that does exactly what the coder did.. To me, that is a WTF moment of the year candidate.

I'm late to the party, but this seems relevant:

Since it's a TARDIS you can fit a whole pot of coffee in there
Admin
Admin
Got that covered. One of my shirts reads "against diverse" in bold letters.
Admin
You could fit both!
Admin
Coftea?
Admin
:tea: #c0ffee
They're almost the same color!
Edit: the lojban word for "coffee type of tea" is kaftcati
Admin
#c0ffee color description : Very pale cyan - lime green.
My work mug gets like that after a few weeks.
Admin
Ewwww! [image]
Admin
I'd be happy with "if you do it, at least don't deliver code that demonstrates that you should never be allowed anywhere near a computer".
Admin
Most date/time libraries aren't designed to be crammed into 8-bit microcontrollers...
Admin
Is it possible to like this reply a lot? Just asking.
Admin
TRWTF is that programmer got PAID to do that.
Admin
Of course not. The timezone tables won't fit into 64kB with enough space to do anything else…
Admin
You'd be doing timezone validation. What else would you want to do?
Admin
It's so good you don't need armour! Or muscles! Or a normally-proportioned torso!
Could it be that in this article, ostensibly about date manipulation, the hidden real WTF is actually Guild Wars?
Admin
Things that are not the colour of coffee: Number 6: #c0ffee
Admin
Download updates to the zone files. They change fairly often (because politicians).
Admin
What if they declare the minute no longer has 60 seconds? What if they abolish the notion of "a month"? What if we finally move to the French Revolution calendar? You gotta cover all bases in your 64KB!
Filed under: what if your 64KB changes to mean 64000 bytes and you run out of space?

Then we guillotine the people responsible after we've come to our senses and get back to our lives.
