That sale is closer to 4/9 price than it is to 1/2 price.

Bonus points for "Eamil" Address ;-)

Perhaps "millicent" was the name of the person who coded that logic (or perhaps it was the name of their significant other), and they decided to pay homage to that in the coding logic 🤪

"That's not exactly half-price, that's more like 0.46835443 of the price"

"Eh, close enough - we'll just round it up. Numbers are hard, but customers are easy!"

That is why it didn't get replaced with the actual email address.

The people at Staedtler Natural Pencil company selling the 5 pack have proven why arithmetic should always be done using a pencil with a good eraser.

1/2 price isn't a WTF. It is accurate to 1 significant digit (5×10¹ % off). Would you prefer 53.2% off, 53.164556962% off, or 37/79 Price? How many digits should you stop at? "1/2 price" is simple, clear, and slightly understates the benefit so isn't misleading in a bad way.

Yep. I've noticed similar in the supermarkets here - where a discount isn't an easy fraction they always understate the rate of the discount a bit. I have always assumed this is because they'd get in trouble if they tried to claim a bigger discount than what they were giving, but no penalty for giving more of a discount than you're claiming because that doesn't hurt the customer.

How about "less than 1/2 price"
