Wonder how many seppos can't spot the WTF in the third one...
Also, the first sentence should have "led" and "targeting".
Admin
There is nothing wrong with the third one. The name of the airplane is Melbourne. Stupid. But not a WTF.
Admin
Would it not have been HMS Melbourne in that case?
Admin
There's a lot wrong with the third one. Flying from Sydney via Auckland to Honolulu flying over Japan, going south?
Admin
Erm... no, nowhere it says that those are the departure or destination. It appears to me those are just showing the current time in their respective timezones.
Anyway, this is totally not a WTF. Due to continental drift Melbourne is now just off the coast of Japan.

Why the hell my do my comments keep getting flagged for moderation? Should I make them more spammy to be sure they'll pass? Maybe I should also change my handle to "spaceman" or one of his current alts while I'm at it? Because his spam never gets flagged.
Seriously... the real WTF is TheDailyWTF ¬¬*

I think the Sydney-Aukland-Honolulu banner is just local time; pretty sure you can't make it from Sydney to Honolulu in 3 hours, no matter what route you take. Also, look at all that land we never knew about in the Arctic Ocean!
This map only works if Earth is flat, 5,000 years of cartography have been faked, and Greenland was abducted by aliens.

I've heard Australians complain about Chinese moving in, but I think this is a bit much.

It's a cylindrical projection, maybe Equirectangular or one of the compromises between this an Mercator. The straight and parallel lines of longitude indicate this family of projections. That is, they stretched the globe into a cylinder and unrolled the cylinder. If the poles aren't cut off the map, these two points stretch into lines all across the top and bottom. The extreme distortion of the shape of Alaska and the Kamchatka Peninsula means this map is closer to Equirectangular. It's a lazy cartographer's work, but this application doesn't require accuracy.
Admin
The accuracy of the map isn't that bad, unless you're flying to Diego Garcia. At least it has New Zealand.
And since it's clearly a map to assist with pilotage and not instrument navigation, at that scale it's only useful in relatively high orbits, where the projection error is relatively small compared to the actual curvature.

All those funky cold meds must have really strong hallucinogenic effects, because they tell you not to take a scalpel and stab at bulldozers with it. Fair advice in most any situation, I guess.

"Do not operate on heavy machinery"?

What distinguishes Diego Garcia?
