    Good jobs are out there, but it's going to take you a while to find yours. Listen to Ellis' advice and be kind to yourself while you do this ridiculously difficult thing!

    save yourself some time by skipping straight down to the Qualifications list. Do you satisfy all or most of those? If not, move on.

    I would expand on this a bit. You can boil qualifications requirements down into three groups: "we know what we want" (e.g. certification for an accountancy position); "we don't know what we want but it's gotta be awesome"; and "we know who we want but don't want to admit it" ("candidate must have precisely 1.3 years experience and a name that rhymes with 'trellis'").

    In the first and third cases, there's no point sticking in an under-qualified CV. In the second case - which is where you get stupid job ads demanding ten years experience of a five-year-old technology - there may legitimately be room to say "I don't have QuertyUiop, but look at my amazing portfolio of AsdfgHjkl".

    Of course, you also have to be aware what you're getting into: a potentially lucrative role, but at a company that's run by the less-clueful.

    This reminds me of how our HR got terribly worried that "people with autism have difficulties with our job specs", because they assume that if a job advert asks for X, Y, and Z, then they want candidates with X, Y, and Z.

    Because obviously that is a sign of autism and not, of course, a sign of assuming people know what they're talking about ...

    Is the job market really that bad these days? Or is it just that the post virus slump + AI killed all the easy to reach junior code monkey jobs and not everyone is fit to be a med/senior? Am genuinely curious since at my age I am well past the bracket where I could judge for my self.

    Eh, if consideration for the neurodiverse causes HR to realise they're in a toxic death-spiral of over-demanding recruiters and over-promising candidates... yay?

    As an ADHDer, a lot of my "reasonable adjustments" are things my team collectively knew they should have been doing anyway but never had the management bandwidth to get signed off. (Timekeeping policies. Goddamn unspoken timekeeping policies.) As long as I don't get backlash - which is less of a risk on this side of the pond - I'm fine being the casus belli in the war on bad practice.
