Steve M: Future-proofing. Maggie May resigned today, next week a number of areas will be making unilateral declarations of independence.

Alert! Since the frist comment is apparently held for moderation, it is my duty to inform you that the price of ${Frist} has just gone up from NaN to NaN.

  • (nodebb)

I guess somebody in Quality Control for the jigsaw printer needs to watch what they are doing.

Yes! Vote Wiltxit! Vote Middsxit! Too long have we been under the oppressive yoke of Westminster!

Boy, the post-Brexit breakup of the UK is worse than I feared :rimshot:

There bre two WTFs in the first imbge.

  • Puzzle me this (unregistered)

I guess the puzzle maker was just a Robert Jordan fan.

  • alexmagnus (unregistered)

And that's no a xylophone for X, but all alphabet books make that mistake.

  • Gumpy_Gus (unregistered)

It's just a cross-marketing thing. You have to put those two large pieces in a "Shrinky-Dink" machine. Oh wait.....

  • Bruce (unregistered) in reply to Karis Molenko

I love the way the puzzle arbitrarily shows some with uppercase letters and some with lowercase.

I heard they had some really bad ${wrt}$ in ${dma}$ this week.

Wiltshire is poor, but TRWTF is Middlesex hasn't existed as an actual county since the 1960s (most of it became Greater London, and the rest got divided up between other counties).

Get Prepared For Severe ${wtf}$ In The ${tdwtf}$ Area

Bad weather in my DirectMemoryAddress area? I better route everything to my write-only buffer memory.

  • another guest (unregistered)

{dma} is probably designated market area, the Nielsen national TV region map. Seems odd to use it for weather tracking but it makes sense, it would let you map from a zip code to the major city in the region or common area name.

  • (nodebb)

"DMA" is probably "designated market area". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_market

I think one of their wheels are loose.

(Please tell me you used the term "watch" intentionally...)

  • eric bloedow (unregistered)

this reminds me of a silly book i saw in a store: "P is for Pterodactyl: the worst alphabet book ever." lots of weird words with odd pronunciations.

The 4/31 one reminds me of one of the best scenes from "Parks and Recreation" TV show:

    • Hey! Good morning.
    • Why are there six people outside who say they're waiting to meet with me?
    • So, you know how you love me because you haven't had a single meeting with anyone since I became your assistant? That's because every time someone calls and requests a meeting with you, I always schedule it for March 31st.
    • Why?
    • Because I didn't think March 31st existed. "Thirty days has September, April, March and November"
    • JUNE and November. Today is March 31st.
    • I know.
    • So, then, how many meetings do I have today?
    • Ninety-three.
    • Okay, okay... Well, you know what to do.
  • Dave (unregistered)

    Obviously w is for wristwatch.

  • Seph Harrison (unregistered) in reply to Dave

That was the mistake I noticed, as well as the J for Jelly, which appears to be showing what we in the US call Jello, a brand name, and I think other countries call gelatine.

  • Wheresthespamohthereitis (unregistered)

I guess I'm lucky I just moved from ${dma}$ to NaN. I always wanted to visit ${Frist} but I was born into a poor family in FILENOTFOUND and grew up in a trailer park in '); DROP TABLE Students;--

  • Gerry (unregistered) in reply to Seph Harrison

No, most of the English speaking world calls it jelly. It is normally made from gelatine. The fruit conserve is called jam.

  • Chris (unregistered)

Surprised no-one has mentioned that the real problem with the date 4/31 is that of course there aren't 31 months!

  • (nodebb) in reply to Chris

Don't be silly, 4/31 is obviously April 1931 and they just haven't changed their tap list in 88 years.
