Another name change? Now I need to update the shortcut in my Windows Startup group AGAIN!!
Admin
I approve of the featured comments highlighting. It gives me a small carrot to actually go out of my way and comment, something I usually wouldn't bother. Having the chance of my post being highlighted lets me feel slightly fuzzier inside. Hopefully that's not an incentive just for me.
Wouldn't see it as a tool to filter out the "good" comments though. I enjoy a lot of the boredom-induced diatribes that people tend to go on over here and will read all the comments anyway. For maximum effectiveness, it should have a "show only featured comments" tickbox somewhere. It could then collapse all of the other comments Digg-style, or hide them altogether.
Admin
For the love of Baby Jesus, pick one flippin' name and flippin' STAY WITH IT. I don't care what it is. Call yourself "The Daily Seal-Clubbing", for all I care, just PICK ONE THING.
Admin
I got an error as well, thought it was a joke :)
Admin
Admin
Any chance there will be more stickers to celebrate the new new name change?
Admin
Actually the name change was stupid the first time, but now... now you have outdone yourself.
Any way I read most of the articles that appear on the http://thedailywtf.com/rss.aspx feed (yes this is the old thedailywtf.com and it is still working), BUT i liked the good old thedailywtf where every post made me go like "WTF man". Now most articles are funny or even have some real value it is just not the same.
Admin
I happened to think, there's a potential problem with the Featured Comments: What happens if someone posts a legitimate comment first and then later edit/replaces it with "FIRST" or "FIST"?
Admin
Question:
What's the big deal with just thedailywtf? Were you getting shit from people whose employers look at the urls they visit? (OMG IT SAYS WTF?!!)
Admin
Eight maids a' milkin' call it "the daily."
Admin
Golden Mean Fallacy: http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/middle-ground.html
Choose one name and stick with it.
Admin
How 'bout this: TRWTF is the Random article function doesn't honor the chosen language! As impressed as I am that the site offers Russian and it's fun to look at the Cyrillic characters, I can't understand a whit.
Admin
Honestly, I think you should get over the "dastardly" original meaning of WTF and return back to that name. No one uses "Worse than Failure" in common discussion. It was a mistake to ever get away from it. Tell the ignorant that it means "Worse than Failure" and let them figure it out on their own. Your comparison to New Coke was perfect. Now complete the result and return New Coke back to Coke.
Admin
The Daily seal-clubbing would be better than Worse Than Failure. (take that grammar check)
Admin
As I mentioned in MY survey response... I WANTED to pick the "well reasoned, humorous response, but there was JAVASCRIPT STOPPING US from picking it!
You had to turn off the JS, make your selection, then re-enable it to submit the form. I'm quite surprized you even got 5.5%!
Admin
"Speaking of which, I’m surprised that only 5.5% of you said that, given the opportunity to leave that first comment, you’d leave “a well-reasoned, humorous, and insightful reply.” Tsk, tsk, tsk."
If it's any consolation, I received an error message, explaining that the "well-reasoned, humorous, and insightful reply" wasn't a viable option. Considering the site I was on, I dismissed it as a joke.
Admin
"The Real WTF" is that the Random Article -link sometimes takes me from the english site to the russian site.
Admin
Perhaps that is a "feature"
Admin
This site will always be the daily what the f**k to me. I dislike any of the attempts to make the name more 'palettable' or politically correct to the masses. But I still enjoy the content regardless of the labelling, so greasemonkey helps me out with replacing the name/logo accordingly!
Admin
I certainly agree with the others on the name change.
YOu've just greatly increased the length of the domain we have to remember! "The Daily WTF" worked because it was a nice URL. "Worse than failure" is not so great a name change, but at least the URL is still shorter than its new name.
Maybe in 10 years it'll be so long it'll take an hour to type it in. Auto-complete FTW! Until you typo and lose the auto-complete...
Admin
That's actually a suffix...
Admin
About this first post thing: since quite a while we (GMT + 1) in europe get the newest WTF around 1800 sometimes later. Earlier this year this happened at noon or not too late in the afternoon. That way after more than 15 months of daily WTF reading I managed to get my first FIST and it was immediately ripped off. Waaaaah, sniff. I know (at least looking at the time of the posts) you are 6 hours behind so you publish around noon which is certainly a convenient time for you. But maybe something could be done there so we are not always the last served (I mean at work)
Admin
Why dont you do it like this to make EVERYONE happy
thedailywtf.com has the (Original) logo on top, worsethanfailure has the last logo, then http://thedailyworsethanfailure.com/ has this new logo???? It would be extremely easy to do, and you would please everyone! Hell, you can then grab statistics to see which domain is visited the most!
Admin
"_joke" is a SUFFIX and there is no such thing
Admin
I think that Alex should have a quarterly name change... picking a new and improved version each time. Just picking a single name seems like a poor idea and an excuse in laziness. In fact, if Alex could do monthly name changes, that would be even better...
Admin
I don't even remeber the old one
but I can see some new CAPTCHAS. Looks like someone has some Latin vocabulary to repeat QED.
Admin
lol @ the name change. And lol at the people who will inevitably take it seriously.
Admin
Ummmm...FIRST????!!!???
Admin
You should've hired a rebranding specialist to give you a spiffy new name, like lucent, imation, accenture, innoviant, etc.
Your corporate branding partner has spent $2 million and come back with a name that captures the spirit of innovation, cooperation, and determination your company inspires in your employees. That name is....
CAPTCHA: WhaThaFack
Admin
Um, no shit, detective. Do you really think he doesn't know about that?
Way to miss the point of this entire site.
Admin
Worse Than Failure is not what 'WTF' means. Never has, never will, all the readers know it, and you're chickenshit for not admitting it!
Why does the acronym need any expansion at all? Does anyone think that hiding behind a (CLEARLY) alternate expansion makes this site legit, or something?
Admin
being one who prefers worse than failure to both the former and the current names, i offer this as a possible solution:
put the words "the", "daily", "what", "freak", "worse", "than", and "failure" in a javascript array and randomly pick 3 each and every time the page is loaded...
i'd say how many different names that would end up being, but that would require math. i hate math.
Admin
The Real WTF is people don't have the ability to turn off javascript anymore. One word: Get Mozilla Firefox and the Web Developer extension. (Yeah, that was indeed more than one word. Another thing you need to get is a sense of humour!) It clearly was a gag, aimed from the admins of this site, at us users... And the joke was to be able to "hack" around the javascript that kept saying invalid choice, and answer correctly. "Hack", because turning javascript off really isn't hacking, it's just normal surfing. And 95% failed to do so. A wise man once said: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I think it was William Shatner.
CAPTCHA: I really love typing these ridiculously long sentences in the captcha and I'd rather have them even longer than this and please don't ask what my captcha was
Admin
If I had known the whole survey was just a big joke, I'd have ignored it altogether. I won't make that mistake next time.
Admin
how about TheDailyWorseThanFailureFormerlyKnownAsTheDailyWtf.com ?
Admin
Nope, 'fraid the new name sucks too as it's neither here nor there. If you want to change the name of the site for PC reasons to boost da inkomes then by all means do but don't half-ass change it back. It's not bowing to popular request nor is it really a compromise as we like the WTF bit more than "The Daily".
The Daily WTF means something to me as a developer, it's almost like some secret keyword that resonates empathy between developers. It's that moment where you discover the line: public const bool TRUE = true;. It's the moment when you realise that the 500 lines of code you've been looking at all morning don't actually do anything apart from potentially enter an infinite loop. It's the moment when you discover during a debugging session that you have over 100 threads in a process.
By contrast all that WorseThanFailure means to me is the politically correct name of an awesome site that used to be called TheDailyWTF.com. It feels like my manager has ripped all my Dilbert cartoons off my wall and replaced them with Garfield. :'(
Still, I like the other site improvements and I still love the site. :)
Admin
If anything, this post is a good gauge as to how many people will just go straight to posting their piece of mind without checking out what other people are saying in the comments.
Either way, when the logo inevitably changes back to "The Daily WTF" in a few days or so, a lot of you are going to look really stupid.

And a big "thank you" to Alex from those of us that do get it.
Admin
Guess I was one of the small minority that liked Worse Than Failure BETTER. Go figure. Always seemed a bit more.. clever than just "WTF!" which I see far too often written by bad AOL users and semi-retarded forum posters all over These Great Internets.
Admin
So, um, are you trying to tell us something with the Best of the Side Bar?
Admin
Retarded. With the initial name change I stopped viewing the site on a regular basis. This is just more of the same nonsenses. If this site is supposed to be about WTF moments then why pretend to be anything else.
Admin
Considering all the well-reasoned and insightful comments that have been offered in this thread, I think we can all see what the REAL WTF is here: Changing the site’s name from Worse Than Failure to The Daily Worse Than Failure was the "Worst. Namechange. Ever.", said one poster; "Worse than failure" in no way conveys what we feel, added another; one commenter summed it up thusly: 'fraid the new name sucks too.
I think the least Alex can do is to give people what they want -- comments like "The daily" really wasn't the bit we missed clearly say what is missing. Truly, Worse Than Failure is not what "WTF" means. And most of us just want to exclaim "WHAT THE F***?!!", for crying out loud!
This second.worst.namechange.ever(); has angered the user base, which has now spoken - with one voice! It is indeed time to pick one flippin' name and end this sad display of bowing down to the Political Correctness freaks!!
Yes, there is only one way to save the site, and it is by reinstating the profanity whose absence has deprived it of its soul.
And in a fortuitous coincidence, Ryan North has independently recently confirmed that adding this particular spice does indeed make titles better. Hence, I give you -- the new name:
The Friggin' Daily Worse Than Failure
Admin
Let me guess: December 11th == April 1st in base 13?
Admin
It's like the organisation that I work at. At least once a week some section or another decides to change its name to better convey its purpose in the organisation, thus causing mass confusion and panic. But the name conveys information better!
Admin
How about a crappy prompt that says: "Please enter site name here:" ? That's customer satisfaction !! Of course some will be sad about the URL, but you can always try buying the crappy domain "www.com".
Admin
In an IT situation, an accurate archaeological record is produced by this behavior.
See, generation one of the department prefixes all new systems with the acronym of the group name. After management decides to reorganize and rename everything, group is stuck with a choice: keep old prefix, or adopt the new group name? Solution? Grandfather old name on old systems, all new systems get the new prefix.
In my group alone we have five naming prefixes. The latest one has unusual longevity, we've been the same name for 16 months now! To get the renaming bug out of their system, management elected to create new job titles for everyone instead.

The Daily WTF 2.0? The Daily Worse than Failure 3.14159?

"which means that they’ll be shown on the article’s page and also highlighted in blue to distinguish from the rest." Did you mean: white? Because I see no blue here.
