i'd rather have a sticker with the real name, to be honest. i like the original name better, even with a sticker bribe that i won't sign up for.

I want a free sticker. I don't care about any of this debate. Just give me a sticker.

    Oh, I love this site.

And I still don't care. But, I might be one to actually think the name change is good. It'll keep me from having to explain to my in-laws and kids. Heck, the change might even let you through the stingy corporate content filter (lol).

Not if it filters based on actual content.

Let me help y'all out with this.
    1. If you're not paying the bills, then you can HAVE an opinion, but that's not the same as having a RIGHT to one.

Actually everyone has a RIGHT to have an opinion on ANYTHING. What are you going to do, rip it out of their psyche? How the hell can you declare with any reason that a sentient person does not have a RIGHT to have thoughts?

Your assertion that people do not have a RIGHT to their opinion is probably the single largest WTF I've seen posted here.

I believe these are people are the same people who would attack something like this page changing its name. I bet if you changed it to Linux0r0wnzW1nd0wz they wouldn't complain. These people lack substance so why do people care that they are leaving. Come to the think about it the name should have been changed a long time ago.

Ah yes, yet another "I don't understand logic" post. You can't deal with actual arguments so instead you level insults at those you disagree with. Quite mature, no? No.

This site's purpose is to showcase strange happenings in IT. And most of those are worse than failures.

Can you define what qualifies as "worse then failure" in IT? If something fails, any effects of that failure are part and parcel of the failure. A 'horrible failure' is still a failure. Failure is either a binary operation, or an operation of degrees.

Thus the name is nonsense regardless of any previous names. Besides, not all of the WTF posts are about failures, are they? Things can work just fine but not fail. They are still WTF, even if they function as intended. So yet again, "worse than failure" is not applicable.

  • (cs)

I hope I can manage to get one of those stickers. There is a server over here that could do with it being stuck on it.

  • Bucciarati (unregistered)

Alex, Are you trying to buy us people who don't like the name change ??!? With stickers?

    lol srsly ... WTF ??!?

  • Zylon (unregistered)

"Worse Than Failure" == "New Coke"

  • PvtCab00se (unregistered)

It would be cool if you could also have a set starting at 12:00pm. Some of us have things to do at noon.

The real WTF is 12pm is noon. Did you mean 12am?

Either way, still no answer on whether this is US only or international... And stating the time as 12 EST is a pain in the arse. Could have written it in UTC so the rest of the world has a clue. I had to look up WTF EST was.

Addendum (2007-02-28 01:05): It's just come to my attention that 12PM USEST is actually 4AM AEDT, which means I won't likely be getting a sticker even if they are available to us non-US people. That sucks.

  • (cs)

Yeah, 'Worse Than Failure' is pretty bad. If you absolutely have to change the name (and I absolutely believe that you don't), I'd suggest 'Welcome To Fail'.

  • coz (unregistered)

is this free-sticker-form another WTF(as in what the fuck?)

  • tm (unregistered)

Of course, as I find this in my RSS reader, I'm too late.

    keeps waiting

  • FDF (unregistered)

WTF? WTF will always mean what the fuck. We don't need no bloody WTFy stickers where the only WTF is that even WTF isn't WTF anymore. I think the name change is not only WTF, it is actually worse than failure. Now where could I get an actual WTF sticker that actually says WTF?

  • Henry (unregistered)

    New Site Name = WTF!

  • Somebody who thinks the new name is a good choice (unregistered)

So maybe if you can provide 700 patches to 'fix' the stickers and give those away for free, the author may rethink his choice ;) Or you could just mail him and ask whether thedailywtf.com could still have a banner called "The daily WTF" and not "worse than failure"...

An atari captcha... wonder if there is such a thing.

  • Wene Gerchinko (unregistered)

I am betting - OH HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THE CAPTCHA IS HUGE! - that the stickers are never going to be available.

There should be a simple SALE of them for those who wnat them, as this "hurry to the trough, piggies" situation with the form only being up at NOON, is .. well... the REAL WTF.

    captcha: onomatopoeia

  • Wene Gerchinko (unregistered)

By the way, my own meaning to WTF became: "With Test Findings"

That got one or two laughs from the slower engineers.

  • dh (unregistered)

WTF? Is getting your server to dole out a copy of the form to me to fill out right up there with trying to call in a radio station when they have a 'contest'? Both, apparently, are impossible enough tasks for me to not waste my time making the effort. Still, a sticker might be cool alongside my Coding Horror sticker. So, me and F5 will try again tomorrow.

  • Mike Macgirvin (unregistered)

I don't have any problem with the name change. But I've been a regular reader via syndication and my syndicator strips out some content like images which have a different domain than the feed. This is done to prevent some XSS badness. So anyway, all the wonderful graphics have vanished. It would be lovely if you could make the switchover complete (RSS/Atom feeds and images all coming from the new WTF).

    Oh I'm sorry my argument lacks logic and that I have reduced my self to ad hominens. Gee "The Real Bill", is it possible that I will actually start start attacking the maturity of other posters in one liners rather than providing an argument myself? Good grief, I hope not. Maybe the construction of my logic was hidden inside my immature English so I try to explain it to you;

Premise: Changing the name of website is insubstantial to its services as its content remains the same. Premise: A lot of posters believe that the substance of the site does consist from its name.

Inference: These posters draw their substance from something that has no substance.

Conclusion: These posters have no substance.

Maybe you can find fault in my arguments now that I have presented them in away that you may understand, but I doubt that I will ever be able to find fault in your post (that consists of a single insult) as there are no means to prove or disprove it.

I'm not updating my bookmark either. The name "Worse Than Failure", well... totally fails to describe most of the content. Can anyone point to a story on this site about something that is worse than failure? It's got some failures, and some things that might as well be failures, but that's not the same as worse than failure. What is worse than failure anyway? Succeeding at something you really shouldn't have? (Okay, there might be a few of those, but it's not descriptive of the site as a whole.)

However, "Weird Things Found" would be perfectly descriptive. Heck, I'd happily update my bookmark for that. Do you see anything on this site that isn't weird? That isn't a thing? (Of course not, I said anything.) That no-one found?

My recommendation (which is worth at least ten times as much as those stickers) is to rename the site again, to "Weird Things Found", and to reinstate the what-bang in the banner.

It's none of your business what my CAPTCHA is.

  • (cs)

So I tried again today, at 9am AEDT. No luck. All out.

Any chance of letting some people outside the US have some? We have computers out here in Australia too, you know. And the internet even reaches here, despite Telstra's best efforts to stamp it out.

  • no_my_name (unregistered)

i want free sticker too, but the original Daily WTF would be more fun..

    Lame, dude. Lame.

    Agreed.

CAPTCHA: smile (Aww, i could not smile like back in those days reading thedailywtf in the morning.)

Worse than failure? This site is an example for that.

  • echeese (unregistered)

Woo! I think I made it! I am so awesome!

  • (cs)

GD! I refreshed that page every 10 seconds with complete load in-between. Each time it said all out. I give up. The new name suck anyways.. I was going to hack the words off. Instead, I'll just feed the image through a label site and have my own printed if I feel like it.

  • Daniel Morgan (unregistered)

What time zone is this in?

  • dh (unregistered)

How about offering some for sale? Obviously trying to get one through the form is futile.

I want a sticker too! No fair. blizzard. global warming. power out. whine! whimper. grovel.
