Actually, there is a potential explanation for the WixProjectNode error: The two types could be from different versions of an assembly. Of course, it would be helpful if VS actually mentioned that.

But if you "help" Google Maps by saying you wanna go through Liverpool, it gives a more sensible route: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=southampton&daddr=53.409532,-2.960815+to:Edinburgh&geocode=FYa_CAMdnpbq_ykJKRW-V4lzSDHwcdpMalqMpw;;FWC7VQMdsFzP_ykjJpilALiHSDEnF-d8exTyZA&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=8&via=1&dirflg=w&sll=53.324312,-2.559814&sspn=1.798038,3.532104&ie=UTF8&ll=53.419354,-2.881165&spn=14.384949,28.256836&z=5

    Southampton->Cherbourg (France)->Wexford (Eire)->Dublin (Eire)->Liverpool->Isle of Man->Belfast (N.I)->Troon (Scotland)->Edinburgh Total: 1077miles, including 863 of ferry, and "only" 214 miles of actual walk.

For your information, there is a country in front of UK : that's Belgium, that's where I live and they produce great beer (like the one I'm drinking ATM). You walk goes by Belgium and not twice by France, and actually it has a big culture-learning potential.

The Visual Studio error is not necessarily spurious. In Java, at least, it is possible to have two objects of one class not be compatible if they point to separate instances of the Class object loaded on different class loaders. Had me scratching my head for hours back in the day.

Allow me to nit-pick your terminology slightly, as is my wont. The same class bytes, with the same FQN, loaded by two different classloaders, are entirely distinct classes. The namespace of a class consists of both the FQN and the classloader that loaded it.

(Not to mention you apparently can't leave the US from anywhere but the extreme NW corner of Washington, and you also have to tour one of the islands of Hawaii before continuing your trip)

Well, in that case it just ran out of alternative solutions. Now, why it has you go all the way to Washington State before sending you to Hawaii......

One (of several) real WTFs is that Google Maps uses one arbitrary address as the starting point when given a city.

CAPTCHA: conventio - a gathering of procrastinators?

It seems to pick some kind of geographical center. The point it picks for the United States is at the shore of a small pond near a farm house north of Dearing, Kanas. Perfect spot for an extraterrestrial landing.

Well ET needs directions home too

  • (cs)

If you get directions from Google Maps for Los Angeles to China, it tells you to Kayak from Washington to Hawaii, then kayak from Hawaii to Japan, then Jet Ski from Japan.

    No point really, just interesting.

It is very convenient when you live about a block from the geographical center of your city. I've probably increased the time until my eventual decent into computer-induced carpal tunnel syndrome by at least 15 minutes over the course of my life by not having to type my street address.

  • EngleBart (unregistered) in reply to Rodger C.

The real WTF is the Windows Registry.

I prefer software you can unzip into one spot, move it around if you like, make a copy, have multiple versions installed (in different folders/directories/repetoires of course), and delete it without have to worry about registries, uninstall info, etc.

This is a program, not user specific data!

Add it to the path if you really need it from the command line, otherwise just use a fully qualified short cut.

Actually I suspect it's just easier to define a "route" across bodies of water rather than have a bunch of special cases where it has to say "oh, no route exists from A to B, or C to D, or E to F, or A to C, or A to D..."

Then since you have a route that doesn't really exist as such, you provide the subtle clue that "hey, I can't just drive this part, I have to... oh, right."

The ramen noodles one is not a WTF either. I know this because I recently bought and consumed some of that exact same brand of ramen noodles (I think it was Maruchan), and noticed the very same thing.

The "BEST BY: (MM, DD, YY)" text is pre-printed on the packaging, as shown in the image. The actual best-by date is then printed in a faint dot-matrix font about an inch to the right.

  • lawl (unregistered)

Google maps does that when you drag the route to change it around. There have been many people posting pics of them modifying normal routes and then claiming that google maps screwed it up... and sadly everyone falls for it.

  • (cs) in reply to thnurg

I didn't seem to have a problem with getting a land route. I also modified it a little to walk 500 miles. Link to screenshot

For the added WTF, here are some of the last steps:

    363. Turn left 0.5 mi 364. Turn right 0.7 mi 365. Turn right 0.2 mi 366. Turn left 1.8 mi 367. Turn left 0.5 mi 368. Turn left 1.7 mi 369. Turn right 0.3 mi 370. Turn left 262 ft 371. Turn left 1.0 mi 372. Turn right 0.2 mi
Better take a well-calibrated pedometer with you to figure out when to turn.

For a walking route that's 100% walking you could try the OpenStreetMap-derived directions at:
That route may only involves walking, but the last section of this one is likely to involve travelling in a police car.

Google doesn't actually allow you to decline to use ferries: See for yourself. On the positive side, this does kind of show you why water transport used to be much more popular in the past than it is now. As for the Japan route, TRWTF is that when you enter Japan as destination it automatically assumes that you actually mean 800 m from Kuboki in the backwoods of Nagano. As for those of you who're saying that the VS message is a user error, well in that case you might as well make VS always pop up a ‘User Error’ message when the code won't compile. VS should be able to recognise that the classes though having the same name aren't identical and display an appropriate message.
