"How many hours behind GMT is that?" "A Brazilian."

I don't like this riddle. There's no particular reason why either of the packages must have any particular side facing me. I'm tempted to get up and turn the top package around just out of spite.
Admin
A muzzle?
Admin
granica
I always thought that meant border.
Ah well, close enough.
Editing on smartphone still stinks.
Admin
that's one method, although should you try you can expect a call from the RSPCA
Admin
Rural SPCA? Redneck SPCA?
I think it would be entertaining to hear you call them about this.
Admin
Royal.... heathen.
and you'll likely also hear from the ASPCA and PETA.
they won't be as nice about it.
Admin
Especially the SCPA.
Admin
Blakey and I. I'll give you a pass just this once as English is your second language.
Admin
Well, that was exactly what it said on the tin (Stupid Comics).
Admin
Anyone who's seen the kind of comics--and I use the term loosely--Blakey posts here could have guessed that would be the case.
Admin
I don't recognize their authority, that bunch of furriners.
Admin
People for the Eating of Tasty Animals?
Admin
I like animals. Especially tasty ones.
Admin
One can only really appreciate the tastyness after trying it at least once ... anybody a piece of dog?
Admin
Huh. Pretty sure in this case "others" is the subject.
But hey ,maybe that's right. I've never been good with grammar rules.
Admin
It's a rather odd construction, and the grammar is not entirely obvious. I would have phrased it differently to avoid the grammatical uncertainty.
However, whether the case should subjective or objective, it is customary in a compound noun phrase including yourself and other people to put the other people first: "Blakey and I/me." Many people think one should always use "I" in that construction, but that is incorrect; if you would say "blah blah me," you should say "blah blah Blakey and me."
Admin
That's the rule I was thinking of, but now I'm saying it to myself over and over and I'm not so sure anymore. English isn't even easy for the natives.
Admin
That's how this whole conversation reads to me.
Admin
Admin
Correct. Also, limit. Languages are fun!
Edit: Hanzo'd!
Admin
Admin
Yes, people use that. But I don't think it's strictly correct, at least in Croatian. As in, you won't find it in the dictionary, even though it's widely used.
Admin
@Steve_The_Cynic "Similarly, French as a second language isn't that rare. Heck, even I can manage that, which is good, because I work in a French company in northern France, and the everyday business of the office is in French. (That said, for no adequately explained reason, the mostly(1) French-developed codebase has a 100% English variables/comments rule.)"
I wasn't suggesting in any way that I am a special little flower, just trying to explain to the poster who missed my little joke that yes, It was intended as a joke, and (s)he shouldn't think that I had an anti-French agenda. Perhaps I had better just shut up completely and take my failed sense of humor out and shoot it. However, responding to your post, some years ago I was working with a codebase developed at Thomson. The comments were a mixture of English and French, with no obvious pattern, and one of them was, as I recall "je m'emmerde avec ce jeu de bagatelles". Thinking about it, I now wonder whether it was developed in Canada.

THIS Thomson?

The "port forwarding refuses to work" Thomson? Kill it with fire!
Filed under: I fully acknowledge that there might be a firmware update that fixes it, Every one I ever worked with is broken as shipped though
Admin
My relationship with Thomson goes back a long way - to the 1980s. The software was for industrial VME minicomputers that went in steel cabinets and cost around $25k. So no, not that kind of thing. That thing came after my time. But yes they have made some crappy products. I was called in at one point to help investigate a set top box that kept blowing its thermal fuse. The Thomson management, as I recall, blamed the thermal fuse and said it was faulty. My lab did some very careful work testing the thermal fuses and concluded that if they were blowing, it was because they were doing their job. We concluded that the users were either putting the units on carpet or putting magazines on top of them, blocking the air so they overheated. This I believe is why most home routers and the like are now made to stand upright. TRWTF was that the management hadn't realised that the average consumer is not competent to read and understand the manuals for electronic equipment, and needs to be protected from his own stupidity.
Admin
No reason they must have a particular side facing you, but convention favors having the "front" (which in Quebec is what we would call the "back") where you can see it.
Admin
I learned how to eat small green chili peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy).
Admin
That's true, but at least in this case, either one gets the point across.
Admin
Admin
"Blakey and me".
Admin
Sounds like a children's TV show.
Admin
Scary

Admin
.... You are no help.
Admin
I disagree.
Admittedly, upon more thought, "mittens" or "boxing gloves" would've been more useful suggestions in re: you trying to lose your spoon.
Admin
At this point it might make sense for @pjh to rename the thing "the @accalia memorial spoon".
Admin
...but how would she type?
Admin
FTFY
Admin
Agreed. It still doesn't change the fact that it does sound like one.
You know what's even scarier? Compared to some of the shit I saw on TV these days, it might not be the worst one around...
Admin
I second the motion.
@PJH: The motion is seconded. Discussion? ... ... Hearing none, all in favor? @everyone: #Aye! @PJH: Opposed? @accalia: Nay @PJH: The motion carries on a vote of, um, "a lot" to one.
Edit: Discurse closed my <i> prematurely, but when I wanted to close the second one to add this, I had to add two closing tags.
Admin
FTFY.
also literally laughing out loud here.
Admin
Just be thankful I didn't take it further… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Is today the Opposite Day?

i imagine our ISP and network admin will be less than pleased with that solution.
it would probably be more effective to just convince @pjh to tempban @accalia
