Actually looking at the featured comments, I believe I have found the Real WTF. (I know you all hate that phrase by now... my first and last time, promise.)

What, for example, is worth featuring about Irrelevant's 172049... No offense to the poster, but other people said they like it too in better ways.

And why wasn't the redesign contest post featured? I can't be bothered to find it but I remember thinking that's a way better suggestion than all the design critique...

On the one hand, I really like the color scheme. On the other hand, when I look at some color vision test plates, I just see a bunch of dots instead of numbers.

I concur with this statement. The colors are very nice.

WTF? Take today's article "lock and key". I read it from the site, ok, when I saw it in Google Reader, I found it had some headings I had missed... Guess what? It seems they're colored white on a white background... tzk tzk tzk, Alex... Oh well, looking deeper... I happens ONLY when the article is displayed as "full article" on the home page, on its page red headings appear...

F-U-G-LY - it fugly! design is ok, colours are awful.

  • holodri (unregistered)

those colors hurt my eyes... not a special single one but all together. there are plenty of tools that help you choose colors.

My evaluation: - Menu on the left side: Bad

How can you all have the menu on the left or wherever? I have it right below the last post using IE6.

    WTF???

OK using IE6 is a WTF, as well. But I'm not the boss here.

    CAPTCHA: ideo

Is this Latin for "I'm spitting out ideas"? Or "I am ideating"

    For this article:

HTMLTidy/SGML Parser (FFox Plugin) says: 57 Errors, 4 Warnings Validome says: 85 Errors W3C Validator says: 114 Errors

Just what do you think Web Standards are good for? Oh, it's just a recommendation? Let's just ignore the RFCs, for they are only 'Request for Comment's.

No, really: Most of this is just stupid typos or similar stuff (like forgetting to quote attributes). It can be corrected easily - but it can be delegated to everyone's browsers - thanks to Microsoft, this is not a problem.

My screen reader has some problems with your tables, though (or rather I do), and the heading structure is a bit strange (h1 > h3), but I've got used to this. I can even read (or understand read-out) obfuscated VB code...

But still, you might consider improving this a bit...

    Best regards, the mole

    ObiWayneKenobi:
I don't know why so many people are bitching about the menu being on the left-side. According to good web design principles (Anyone heard of those? Doubt it) navigation menus are supposed to be either across the top or on the left-hand side.

But (1) The left hand column runs all the way down past the responses. I'm used to white space on the left, ragged left. Take a look at a text document.

(2)Index on the left, comments and annotations on the right. The way I read the content, I don't use that stuff as an index, so it belongs on the right.

Personally, I think the new look is pretty ugly.

  • blubb (unregistered)

the new look is SLOW. on linux/firefox2.0.0.11 scrolling is dead slow. this sucks... please fix :)

I'm just happy you went back to the real name. "worse than failure" was just not funny...

  • AnotherRandomPerson (unregistered) in reply to ObiWayneKenobi

Some of us got used to it being on the right -- having it on the left is just confusing when you were expecting it somewhere else. Probably we'll get used to it in a few days.

  • baldvin (unregistered)

Worst look ever, yes. The previous was the best. Pastel is not just about mode, it is also about usability. Even v1.0 is better than this.

Also: the name WorseThanFailure was very good, also the article you have written for that was one of the most brilliant articles written ever in the field - should be taught in university. So I don't like the name switched back either.

I guess it has nothing to do with your capabilities as a writer, so I remain your admireing reader...
