Wow, thanks Google translate! That really helps!

That's an uncomfortably deep stack trace.

Also: the only reason to need non-Lorem words under those pictures is so you know specifically what's in the sausages. Heck, maybe there's even some meat in there, but we don't know, because it doesn't say.

It's quite a normal stack trace for a Java Servlet Webapp, especially when using additional frameworks/libs like Spring and Freemarker. What's more unusual is the capitalization of everything: "Org.Springframework" and ".Java". Makes it look like .NET shudder

To be fair, some versions of Embedded XP are still supported.

Dosen't mater what OS is running the ticket machines for southern rail at the moment, you are not going to get a train anyway ;-)

I don't think there is anything wrong in not upgrading from an unsupported O/S on machines not connected to the Internet. I bet there are many standalone CNC mills still running Windows 3.11.

TRWTF with the Lorem Ipsum text is missing the perfect use case for Bacon Ipsum...

At a previous job we had CNC machines hooked up to PDP-11s with XP boxes wired into their ticker tape drives... so... ya...

I note also that the meat pictures still have Adobe Stock watermarks on them. Top work, team!

The real WTF is southern train service.

The national railway wanted to revamp London Bridge and hook up the Brighton mainline to the tunnel through the city. This is all well and good, but it meant short-term uncertainty and disruption while the station was under construction. So when they went shopping around for someone to actually operate the trains, they had a generous provision where they'd pay a flat rate and they'd get all the ticket revenue and the operator would just run the trains. The Go-Ahead Group and Keolis formed a limited-liability partnership called Govia and won the contract operate the Southern/Thameslink Rail franchise.

They did a crap job and weren't really penalised for it.

Then they started a campaign to have drivers open the doors instead of conductors, and the unions went apeshit. They were concerned over long-term outlook for the jobs, and did not accept the five-year guarantees for that. Instead, they started striking. Instead of admitting that they just want to keep more jobs in the union, they use the usual excuse: "it's more safe our way!" - obviously desperate to draw a line and prevent any above-ground railroad from moving in the inevitable direction of becoming automated and driverless like the DLR in East London. The drivers have started to join them too.

When they do the strike, Southern gets to claim it's force majeure and does not get penalised under their contract, so they make MORE money than they would have otherwise. And they encourage people to file compensation requests, "Delay Repay", which comes out of the government's pocket.

Meanwhile, the Labour party just wants to use it as an excuse to take over the operation of all the railways (and so their friends in labour unions can benefit) nevermind the multiyear timescale everyone says will be associated with that, and the Conservatives (actually in power) are distracted by Brexit and don't want to give the matter any attention...

so long story short, I'm working from home 3 days next week.

Not surprising that the Google translation sucks:

"The lorem ipsum text is typically a scrambled section of De finibus bonorum et malorum, a 1st-century BC Latin text by Cicero, with words altered, added, and removed to make it nonsensical, improper Latin." (Wikipedia)

I was trying to query JIRA with a slightly malformed URL and I got a stack traceback that was MUCH longer than the example above. Part of it was a recursive call to getNextArg, but still.... real deep.

  • Gil Tomkinson (unregistered)

Hey that's my 6:30am picture before work... Also you've spelt my name wrong. A plesant surprise to see this in all honesty.

  • (nodebb) in reply to Otto

That sort of depth of stack might be normal, but it's still uncomfortable.

How come the same dispute got settled in Scotland, where trains are run by the Scottish Nationalists?

  • KD (unregistered)

Surely bacon ipsum would have been a far better choice for that site.

  • NoNeedForBleedingEdge (unregistered)

I've only worked on XP in various financial & supporting organisations over the last few years. ROI ticks all the boxes.
