No rush? Never state "no rush" to someone you want to do something for you.

Otherwise you'll be waiting till 2112.

I would say that, given that it was all spaghettied together (Ball-O-Mudded?), what he asked for was equivalent to asking for the whole WGII codebase.

And in the end, although he couldn't reuse the code itself, he got what he wanted from it: an answer as to why it wasn't working for him, so despite the WTF of the process, it was ultimately a happy ending.

I once asked someone to send me a copy of their backup schedule\plan. They delegated the task to a junior. A few days later I received physical media containing a copy of their backup data in full, including sensitive data.

I copied the URL of this article to send it to someone else and was quite surprised that it turned out to be https://thedailywtf.com/articles/remy-porter. Is that definitely correct?!

The really interesting question now is: What was the Dogfighting game?

If Weighted Cog 2 is Heavy Gear 2 (the year tracks) the publisher is Activision, so...Fighter Squadron?

  • Sauron (unregistered) in reply to Pabz

Yes, Remy Porter is actually the article.

The Evil of all the bad code finally swallowed his soul and merged it with the website.

Now he's screaming for help from within the darkness, doomed to suffer in the middle of all the horrors that get recounted on thedailywtf.com

You don't need different URLs, when you're Alone in the World.

  • (author) in reply to Pabz

I mean, it is now, because I didn't notice that. We were having some DB issues yesterday and that must have glitched on me.

  • Pabz (unregistered) in reply to Remy Porter

I think we're all just glad that the evil of all the bad code hasn't swallowed your soul, and that you're not alone in the world, as suggested by the others :) Now hopefully no future article will decide to name itself after you...

    Digestive "tracks"?

Success! Like going from Dallas to Ft Worth via Mongolia, but success!

Just another example of Conway's Law in action.

We once asked a customer for a copy of their install disk (Disk 1 of n, back when software came on multiple floppy disks) to debug an install problem they were reporting.

They sent us a photocopy of the disk (front and back side).

Luck had it that we could pin down the problem to a known issue in the exact release version they were using, and by sending them a copy of the first disk from a slightly more recent release version did indeed fix the problem.

  • Bittle Tobby Lables (unregistered) in reply to Hartmut Holzgraefe

The irony here is that the label on the disc which told you what version of the installer they were using was of far more use than a copy of the software on that disc, which would probably not have directly clued you into the fact that the installer they were using was out of date and superseded.

So in fact it was better that they did misunderstand the request to "send us a copy of your install disc".

I hope not, since that would mean we lost this one. And I did find this one quite amusing...

If this is the official Remy article, I shudder to think of what the official Alex article will be.
