This is good. whenever any of my coworkers (or anyone for that matter) asks me what i'm reading, i invariably say 'The daily what-the-fuck instead of the more acceptable the daily wtf. Force of habit that has gotten me into a few spots of bother. Im assuming that this is a joke though.

    April Fool, hopefully?

I googled the new name and as of tomorrow it will be changed back to WTF. No need to panic, just grab a towel and wait!
    I love the second testimonial.

I do not support name change.

What DO you say when you find yourself in WTF kind of situation ?

    1. "What the heck ?"

    I don't think so.

    1. "What the hell ?"

    Maybe ...

    1. "What the fuuuck !?!"

I'm sure most of us would say exactly that. Even we to whom English is not a mother tongue.

Please do not change the name. Again !

    Regards, Dundo.

The real WTF is that this "April Fools" post wouldn't be out of place on this site any other day of the year. :|

"What the hey" is also a shortening of "What the hell".

Personally, I think the site should become "Gee Willikers, Wally"

    ^ this made me laugh...
    A Nonny Mouse (Ms):
I am so delighted to see our beloved website heading in the direction of greater gentility. Might I suggest a further rename to "Oh My Giddy Aunt!"?
    ^ this even more !

From now on I will using these in comments when I find shockingly bad code, thank you :-) (although I think I'll just go for "Gee Willikers!", I think the "Wally" is extraneous to the conveyance of the sentiment)

I hope that future programmers stumbling across the comments will read them using the same voices that I have in my head....that sounds a bit unstable, ah....

For fucks sake, I am sick of all these constant changes of the name. this isnt a childrens web-site, we are all adults here who can handle a bit of swearing- come on. Its just another inication of the terrible slide in quality this site has taken.

And LOLCATS!!! Is everything now so okeydokey in IT there is nothing funny left??? I will not be updating my bookmark - I will be deleting it

Wow.... Speaking of no sense of humor...

Well done, you just got trolled. Your mother must be proud.

The real WTF is that thedailywth.com domain name has been created only for this april fool's. An d there is just a banner. It would have been so nice if there were a complete fake april site at thedailywth.com :)

Website.RenameTo is not static. Did you mean WebsiteListFactoryListFactory.MakeWebsiteListFactoryList().GetWebsiteListFactory(0).NewWebsiteList().GetWebsiteBySpecifiers(new WebsiteSpecifier[] {new WebsiteSpecifier(WebsiteSpecifier.ByHostName, new WebsiteSpecfier.SpecifierParameter("thedailywtf.com"))}).RenameTo("The Daily WTH")?
One way or the other, it is such a time saver that Alex does not have to do all of his frequent name changes to the Worse Than Hailure site manually and has software methods to do it for him instead.

Whether or not they are static or suitably "enterprisey" should be secondary considerations, right? After all... Just do What It Takes, and no more. ;-)

  • an (unregistered) in reply to Kilwch

Honestly, thedailywth.com should have just been implemented to act as an alternate hostname for this server. Then there should have been a redirect so that thedailywtf.com visitors wound up on the thedailywth.com version, reinforcing the joke.

I'm still trying to tell if you failed to get the joke, or are playing along with it. :P

He fell for it, posted his rant, and then read other posts that explained that it was a joke. Now, he's trying to cover himself by pretending he was joking too.

The real WTH is expecting half the planet to celebrate April Fools on April 2nd. The internets are confusing!

No, the real WTH is for you to expect a site run by someone living in the US and hosted in the US to use any other date than the current one in the US.

Nonononono! He's quoting the Beav. To leave off the "Wally" would have the same negating effect as "Holy Lolcats, Batman!" without the "Batman". Context is everything!

And this whole time I thought the site was named "The Daily What The Fork".

Too many fork()ing programs in college...

  • Björn (unregistered)

Well, if you use "heck" instead of "hell", why not call the site "daily what the fudge" in the first place? :)

  • Daniel (unregistered)

Dude, that's a pretty funny April Fools' joke, except that... You've already changed the site name once to make it less "offensive." I assume that's why people are taking you seriously now.

Worse than Failure? That's a WTF in itself!

Despite the pussy euphemismizing, this is still an awesome site. Keep up the good work.

Why does everyone hate on "Worse than Failure"... i liked that name, and even more so, Alex's reasoning behind it...

in other news, i started telling people about the name change, before it clicked. one of the other frequenters of the site just smirked when i told him... it shouldv twigged AT LEAST then...

    Hear hear!

I understand that the admins don't like to have to explain to their Grandmothers (and other relatives) what "wtf" means -- but instead of changing their domain name yet again, why not just tell people it means "What the Fudge?" or "Woodtree Frogs" or "Win the Farm"

Trying to please a small demographic of people by inconveniencing a larger demographic (the TARGET demographic, even) is stupid. Even if kids WERE reading this site, the language on here is strictly cleaner (comments notwithstanding) than anything on basic cable; And I'm sure any kid able to use the Internet already knows what WTF means.

Quit pandering to the grandmothers! They just use their high-speed internet to dry their clothes anyways!

Hear, hear! Quit pandering to the small percentage of the demographic that understands an April Fools joke.

I want to rename the site "The Daily WTFH!"

  • (cs)

    Thanks for the Laugh.

That was FUN. Our class brought a UNIX server to its knees begging for a restart with unintentional forkbombs. I was home on an emulated VT100 dialup waiting upwards of a minute for each character to echo back from the server.

We killed spot! snif (spot was its name; cerberus was a perfect name for a 64CPU box.)
